Complaint:
Rear wheel brake squeal when braking.
2010 Mercedes Benz E 550 Sedan (212.072) V8-5.5L (273.971) Page 179
Cause:
Resonant vibrations
Remedy:
1. Check brake pads for ease of movement.
2. Remove brake pads from brake pad slots and clean the slots if necessary.
3. Replace brake pads and housing retaining springs.
Note:
Lubricate brake pads on their guide pieces ("hammer heads") with MB Plastilube brake paste, see attachment.
Remark:
- As a rule brake disks do not have to be replaced due to brake squeal. One exception is major score marks or waviness resulting from wear. In, this
case the possibility of brake squeal cannot be fully ruled out.
- Reproduce squealing noise when braking and ensure that the noise is caused by the rear axle.
- If necessary, use the help of an assistant to localize the noise.
