1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector of the yaw rate sensor.
2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the module voltage circuit and ground.

- Lost Communication With Yaw Rate Sensor (YRS)
Circuit/System Description
Modules connected to the CAN bus serial data circuits monitor for serial data communications during normal vehicle operation. Operating
information and commands are exchanged among the modules. The modules have prerecorded information about what messages are needed to be
exchanged on the serial data circuits. The messages are supervised and also, some periodic messages are used by the receiver module as an
availability indication of the transmitter module. Each message contains the identification number of the transmitter module.
The electronic brake control module (EBCM) activates the other modules connected to the CAN serial data circuits by applying voltage when the
ignition key is in ACC, ON or START. The EBCM, Yaw Rate and Lateral Acceleration Sensor are the only modules connected to the CAN bus
serial data circuits. For more information on CAN bus serial data refer to Data Link Communications Description and Operation (See: Powertrain
Management/Computers and Control Systems/Information Bus/Description and Operation).
Conditions for Running the DTC
* The system voltage is between 9-16 volts.
* The vehicle power mode master requires serial data communication to occur.

Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector of the yaw rate sensor.
2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the module voltage circuit and ground.

Circuit/System Testing

- Lost Communication With Yaw Rate Sensor (YRS)
Circuit/System Description
Modules connected to the CAN bus serial data circuits monitor for serial data communications during normal vehicle operation. Operating
information and commands are exchanged among the modules. The modules have prerecorded information about what messages are needed to be
exchanged on the serial data circuits. The messages are supervised and also, some periodic messages are used by the receiver module as an
availability indication of the transmitter module. Each message contains the identification number of the transmitter module.
The electronic brake control module (EBCM) activates the other modules connected to the CAN serial data circuits by applying voltage when the
ignition key is in ACC, ON or START. The EBCM, Yaw Rate and Lateral Acceleration Sensor are the only modules connected to the CAN bus
serial data circuits. For more information on CAN bus serial data refer to Data Link Communications Description and Operation (See: Powertrain
Management/Computers and Control Systems/Information Bus/Description and Operation).
Conditions for Running the DTC
* The system voltage is between 9-16 volts.
* The vehicle power mode master requires serial data communication to occur.
Conditions for Setting the DTC
A supervised periodic message that includes the transmitter module availability has not been received.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
* The vehicle stability enhancement system (VSES), if equipped, and traction control system (TCS) will not function.
* System OFF lamps will illuminate for these systems.
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
* A current DTC clears when the malfunction is no longer present.
* A history DTC clears when the module ignition cycle counter reaches the reset threshold of 50, without a repeat of the malfunction.
Diagnostic Aids

One such example is the US's stance on adaptive headlights, which has caused our vehicles to lag behind in terms of safety.
In Europe, companies like Audi and BMW have created laser headlight technology that make for brighter lights and that can be adjusted so as to not blind other drivers. Unfortunately, this technology has been illegal in the US, so we've only received a dumbed-down version. Now, the US government may finally be changing its rules on headlights.
According to Automotive News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is considering a change to its headlight rules after several automakers (led by Toyota) have pleaded for changes. The change is currently in a period of review, but if approved, it would allow automakers to install fully adaptive high beams into their cars.
Put simply, this technology can cut out and redirect light if it senses other vehicles or pedestrians. This way, the car can project the maximum amount of light at all times without blinding other drivers or pedestrians. We recently witnessed this technology on the 2019 BMW X5, but it had to be dumbed down for the US to simply deactivate the high beams completely when it detected other sources of light. BMW says the change to a fully adaptive headlight will require more than just a software change.
We hope the US acts intelligently by changing its rule. Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard Number 108 is the main reason why we haven't been allowed to have this technology and this rule dates back to 1967. Technology has advanced too far for us to still be relying on a rule created 50 years ago. This will be a welcomed change to US automotive safety rules. Now if we could just do something about our stupid 25-year import restriction.

The electronic brake control module (EBCM) activates the other modules connected to the CAN serial data circuits by applying voltage when the

Circuit/System Testing
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector of the yaw rate sensor.
2. Ignition ON, verify that a test lamp illuminates between the module voltage circuit and ground.
瀚慖f the test lamp does not illuminate, test the circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the
EBCM.
3. Ignition OFF, test for less than 5 ohms between the module ground circuits and ground.
瀚慖f greater than the specified value, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
4. If all circuits test normal, replace the yaw rate sensor.

Circuit/System Testing
