The Cadillac CTS Beats The Germans At Something That Really Matters

And driving enthusiasts are the ones who'll benefit.

We honestly weren’t convinced that it could be done, but Cadillac has proven us wrong with its third generation CTS mid-size luxury sedan. Beating the three German luxury automakers, Audi, BMW, and Mercedes-Benz, at anything isn’t easy, but after spending some time with the 2017 Cadillac CTS V6, we can honestly say that its steering and chassis are nothing short of brilliant. Yes, the CTS, when properly equipped (more on that in a moment) is the best-driving mid-size sedan on the planet right now.

Bold statement, we know, and here’s why: Magnetic Ride Control. Many of you are quite familiar with the system, but for those who aren’t, MRC is a real-time damping system that delivers responsive, precise body motion control, and assesses the road up to 1,000 times per second.

A similar version of this system is used in the Ferrari 488 and Audi R8. Spend the extra money and get it in the CTS. Our tester was powered by the mid-range naturally aspirated 3.6-liter V6 with 335 hp and 285 lb-ft of torque, with power going to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic. Yes, rear-wheel-drive is standard, but all-wheel drive, especially if you live where snow has a consistent pattern of accumulating, is $2,000 well spent. For that matter, our CTS’s $67,200 final sticker price is more than reasonable. Special thanks to Woodland Motors for letting us film the car.
