2024 Hyundai Kona First Drive Review

The 2024 Hyundai Kona is a stylish and feature-packed subcompact crossover that is sure to appeal to drivers who want a fun and practical vehicle for their daily commute. We recently had the opportunity to take the new Kona for a spin and were impressed by its smooth ride, agile handling, and advanced technology features.

Exterior Design

The 2024 Hyundai Kona has a sleek and modern design that sets it apart from other vehicles in its class. The front end features a bold grille with a distinctive cascading pattern, flanked by slim LED headlights and fog lights. The sides are characterized by a sharp crease that runs along the beltline, giving the Kona a dynamic and sporty look. The rear end is equally eye-catching, with a sculpted bumper and LED taillights that create a cohesive and upscale appearance.

Interior Comfort and Technology

Inside, the Kona offers a surprisingly spacious cabin, with plenty of room for passengers and cargo. The driver's seat is comfortable and supportive, with ample adjustments available to ensure a perfect driving position. The infotainment system is easy to use and features an intuitive touchscreen display, as well as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Other notable interior features include dual-zone climate control, heated seats, and a premium audio system.

Performance

The 2024 Hyundai Kona is available with two different engine options: a 2.0-liter four-cylinder and a more powerful 1.6-liter turbocharged four-cylinder. Both engines are paired with a smooth-shifting eight-speed automatic transmission, and front-wheel drive is standard, with all-wheel drive available on higher trim levels.

We had the chance to test both engines during our drive, and found them to be capable and efficient. The base engine provides adequate power for city driving and highway cruising, while the turbocharged engine delivers a noticeable boost in acceleration and passing power. The Kona also handles corners with ease, thanks to its responsive steering and composed suspension.

Safety Features

Hyundai has equipped the 2024 Kona with a host of safety features designed to protect drivers and passengers on the road. These include forward collision avoidance, lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. Additionally, the Kona earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), indicating its excellent performance in crash tests.

Conclusion

Overall, we were thoroughly impressed with the 2024 Hyundai Kona during our first drive. Its stylish exterior, comfortable interior, and smooth performance make it a compelling choice for anyone looking for a reliable and enjoyable subcompact crossover. With its long list of safety features and generous warranty coverage, the Kona is a smart pick for those who value peace of mind on the road.
