If you're looking for a mid-size SUV that stands out from the crowd, you might want to check out the 2023 Chevy Blazer RS. This model has a bold and aggressive design that draws inspiration from the Camaro sports car. But does it have the performance and quality to match its looks? Here's our review of the 2023 Chevy Blazer RS.
The Blazer RS comes with a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that delivers 308 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. It's paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission and either front- or all-wheel drive. The V-6 engine provides plenty of power and a throaty sound, but it's not very efficient. We recorded 24 mpg on our highway test, which is below average for the class. The Blazer RS can tow up to 4,500 pounds when equipped with the optional trailering package.
The Blazer RS also has a sport-tuned suspension and steering that make it handle better than most rivals. It feels stable and composed around corners, with minimal body roll and good grip. The steering is responsive and precise, and the brake pedal is firm and easy to modulate. The downside is that the ride quality suffers from the stiff suspension and large 21-inch wheels. The Blazer RS can be harsh over bumps and potholes, and it transmits a lot of road noise into the cabin.
The cabin of the Blazer RS is spacious and comfortable, but it doesn't look or feel very luxurious. The materials are mostly hard plastics and faux leather, which don't justify the high price tag of this model. The dashboard has a similar layout to the Camaro, with circular air vents and a row of buttons for the climate controls. The problem is that the vents are too low to direct air at your face, and the buttons are too small and hard to reach.
The Blazer RS does have some nice features, though, such as a new 10-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a wireless charging pad, a Bose sound system, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, a heated steering wheel, a panoramic sunroof, and a hands-free power liftgate. It also comes with several driver-assistance features, such as forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and a 360-degree camera system.
The Blazer RS offers plenty of room for five passengers and their cargo. The front seats are supportive and adjustable, and the rear seats can slide and recline to create more legroom or cargo space. However, taller passengers might find the rear headroom lacking due to the sloping roofline. The cargo area has 30.5 cubic feet of space behind the rear seats and 64.2 cubic feet with them folded down. That's decent for the class, but some rivals offer more.
The 2023 Chevy Blazer RS starts at $44,495 for the front-wheel-drive version and $46,195 for the all-wheel-drive version. That's quite expensive for a two-row mid-size SUV, especially when you consider that some of its competitors offer more luxury, efficiency, or versatility for less money. The Blazer RS is a good choice if you value style and performance over everything else, but it might not be worth it for most buyers.
