The SRS airbags deploy when the vehicle is subjected to certain types of

severe impact that may cause significant injury to the occupants. The airbags

work together with the seat belts to help reduce the risk of death or serious

injury.

Your vehicle is equipped with ADVANCED AIRBAGS designed based on US

motor vehicle safety standards (FMVSS208). The airbag sensor assembly (ECU)

controls airbag deployment based on information obtained from the sensors, etc.,

shown in the system components diagram above. This information includes crash

severity and occupant information. As the airbags deploy, a chemical reaction in

the inflators quickly fills the airbags with non-toxic gas to help restrain the motion of

the occupants.The SRS electronic control unit (ECU), by means of which setting up, diagnostics, and actioning of monitored elements are held, provides all system functioning. In case a sensor fails, a related electric circuit trips out, a system halt occurs, or a malfunction of other elements related the SRS arise, the airbag light will go on.

If the SRS control module breaks down, all system gets useless so airbags and seat belts cannot be deployed at the right time to protect any occupant during the accident. That is why the airbag module reset is necessary as well as to repair your seat belts if they were deployed. How the SRS system works and what does the Airbag Light ON mean?

How the airbag system works. Your SRS is a complex system with its own computer. This computer uses a network of sensors to detect impacts, deceleration, braking, whether the passenger seat is occupied, and other relevant data.

The SRS light meaning is not different in a Mercedes Benz car. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) light means that there is a challenge with the car’s airbags or any other components within the SRS system.
