Infiniti has come up with a four-door retort to the likes of the Audi R56, BMW MS, Jaguar XFR and Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG: the rapid Q50 Eau Rouge. Infiniti鈥檚 designers have given it an added dose of visual aggression in line with its extended performance potential, including new Fl-inspired carbonfibre bodywork at the front and rear, extra cooling and twin exhaust pipes. Further aerodynamic developments are in store, according to Infiniti, including a larger bootlid spoiler for greater downforce and additional panelling to smooth underbody airflow. To provide the 050 Eau Rouge with the necessary irepower to see it challenge the lofty acceleration claims of its keener performance aloon rivals, Infiniti鈥檚 engineering brain trust has looked beyond the standard 050 S鈥檚 3.7 litre V6 petrol engine. RML engineers decided it didn鈥檛 offer sufficient power and torque to match the sort of performance they desired. Taking its place under the bonnet is the highly capable win-turbocharged 3.8-litre V6 powerplant from the GT-R, modified to fit the 050鈥瞫 tighter engine bay. It gets bespoke mapping to endow the Eau Rouge with a stout 552bhp and 4421b ft of torque. The heady reserves are currently sent to all four wheels via a modified version of Intiniti鈥檚 six-speed automatic gearbox 鈥?if only for a lack of any suitable alternative. The GT-R鈥檚 transaxle was ditched due to packaging concerns. To see it cope with the wholesale increase in power and torque, Infiniti has extensively modified the four-wheel drive system, although it is still very much in an early state of development. Underneath the skin - a mixture of steel, aluminium and carbonfibre is a largely unique chassis. Among the myriad changes is a 100mm increase in the width of the tracks, a 15mm lowering in ride height up front and a 20mm lowering at the rear.
