Parking Brake Adjustment
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

CONDITION SUMMARY:
PARKING BRAKE CABLE ADJUSTMENT AND SHOES BEDDING-IN PROCEDURE
Situation:
A customer may comment about the operation of the parking brake.
Action:
Should a customer have a concern of the above, follow the inspection and adjustment procedure outlined below.

NOTE:

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
INSPECT HUB BACK PLATE AND PARKING BRAKE CABLE
1. Inspect the inner face of a rear hub back plate for the presence of a black and white bar code label. (Figure 1)
CAUTION:
The manual parking brake bedding-in process must be carried out in a safe manner, obeying local speed limits and traffic regulations.
NOTE:
Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows:
GTR Home> NAS > LF - LR2 > Service Information > 2008 > Workshop Manual> Section: 206-05 - Parking Brake and Actuation. The
manual bedding-in procedure is shown in step 3.
2. If no label is present, manually bed in the parking brake shoes as follows:
^ Adjust the parking brake cable.
^ Drive the vehicle at approximately 24 mph (40 kph).
^ Apply the parking brake lever until a braking force is felt.
^ Apply the parking brake lever one further notch.
^ Drive for 400 m (440 yards).
^ Stop vehicle.
^ Release the parking brake.
CAUTION:
The transmission lever must be in "Park" the parking brake "off" and the front wheels chocked.
3. Inspect the left-side parking brake cable at the point it enters the body tube just forward of the fuel tank.

4. If the end of the parking brake cable is not seated in the body tube, seat the parking brake cable as follows:
^ Remove the cable grommets from the retaining brackets.
^ Move the grommets approximately 10 mm (0.4 in) rearwards towards the hub.
^ Seat the end of the cable into the body tube.
^ Install the cable grommets into the retaining brackets.

5. Adjust the parking brake cable.
