Lamborghini has now uncovered the new Huracan Evo Spyder open-top derivative. It鈥檚 equipped with an electrohydraulic soft top that takes 17 seconds to lower and can be operated at speeds of up to 50 km/h. As the driver pushes the button that opens up the cabin, two fins rise up out of the folding roof casing towards the seatbacks. Drivers can electronically open the rear window with the roof up or down, to listen to the V10 soundtrack. As with the coupe, the supercar鈥檚 5.2-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine has been tuned to deliver 640 PS and 600 Nm of torque. With a dry weight of 1,542 kg, and a power-to-weight ratio of 2.41 kg/PS, it hits 100 km/h in 3.1 seconds, 200 km/h in 9.3 seconds and has a top speed of 325 km/h. In comparison, the Huracan Evo Coupe needs 2.9 seconds and 9.0 seconds to accelerate to 100 km/h and 200 km/h, respectively, and maxes out at just over 325 km/h.
Just like its fixed-roof sibling, the new Huracan Evo Spyder features the Lamborghini Dinamica Veicolo Integrata (LDVI) processing unit. This controls every aspect of the set-up and dynamic behavior, including the rear-wheel steering, four-wheel drive, torque vectoring and advanced traction control. It also gets the magneto rheological suspension, tuned dynamic steering and improved aerodynamics of the Coupe. Presented in Verde Selvans, a new Lamborghini four-layer green, the Huracan Evo Spyder rides on new 20-inch Aesir rims, shod in Pirelli P Zero tires. It can be specced in the new Evo grade in a mix of Alcantara and leather, with trim details and stitching that match the exterior shade. The carmaker is offering a new 8.4-inch infotainment system that debuted in the Coupe, as well as different styling packages including Carbon Forged Composite and Carbon Skin. Further personalization options come from the Ad Personam program. 287,400 in the United States, RMB 3,650,000 in China and YEN 32,827,602 in Japan. The first cars will be delivered starting this spring, but before that, Lamborghini will bring the Huracan Evo Spyder to the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
There are 255 litres with the rear seats in place, four more than the VW, but it鈥檚 also the more spacious choice with them folded. You get 1,010 litres in total, while the up! As with the up! 鈥檚 a large loading lip and the seats don鈥檛 fold down completely flat. Still, both cars have a moveable boot floor that can be raised to create a flatter surface. The trade-off for the extra boot space in the Picanto comes with rear legroom, because there鈥檚 much less space here than in the up! Headroom is good in both cars, although there鈥檚 a lot more space in the back of the Volkswagen. A seven-year warranty comes as standard with every Kia, and the brand did quite well in our Driver Power 2018 satisfaction survey, although its eighth-place finish was behind Volkswagen鈥檚 fifth out of 26 makers. The Picanto gained a four-star Euro NCAP crash rating under tougher requirements in 2017, but has better safety kit.
For a start, there are six airbags to the VW鈥檚 four, and the Kia has autonomous braking fitted as standard (it鈥檚 a 拢380 option on the up!). In our hands, the Picanto was the more economical car, returning 47.1mpg and costing 拢1,378 a year to fuel. We got 43.3mpg from the VW, which will cost 拢1,499 a year to run. But the higher list price and lower predicted residual values mean the Kia will lose more after a typical three-year ownership. It only keeps 38.6 per cent of its value in that time, so the Kia will be worth 拢5,675 and lose 拢9,045. A 40.9 per cent figure means the up! 拢7,896, but it will be worth slightly less (拢5,464). Testers鈥?notes: 鈥淢any city car buyers will choose PCP, so this has a big bearing on running costs. VW Group鈥檚 city car siblings that features a turbocharged petrol engine in its range. Here we鈥檙e testing the top-spec High up! Picanto rival, although at 拢13,360, it鈥檚 a bit cheaper than the Kia.
