Scan Tool Reference
Control Module References (See: Testing and Inspection/Programming and Relearning) for Scan Tool Information
Circuit/System Verification
Ignition ON, command the tilt motor UP and DOWN with a scan tool. The reading should be between 0.2 and 4.8 volts.
Circuit/System Testing
Tilt Sensor Circuit Malfunction
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the tilt actuator.
2. Ignition OFF, test for less than 10.0 ohms between the low reference circuit terminal E and ground.
瀚慖f greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the MSM.
3. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 volts between the 5-volt reference circuit terminal D and ground.
瀚慖f less than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal,
replace the MSM.
瀚慖f greater than the specified range, test the 5-volt reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the MSM.
4. Verify the scan tool Tilt Sensor parameter is less than 0.2 volt.
瀚慖f greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit terminal C for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the MSM.
5. Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal C and the 5-volt reference circuit terminal D. Verify the scan tool Tilt
Sensor parameter is greater than 4.8 volts.
瀚慖f less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace
the MSM.
6. Install a test lamp between the control circuit terminal A and the control circuit terminal B.
7. Command the column to tilt up and down using the tilt switch. The test lamp should illuminate with each command.
瀚慖f the test lamp does not illuminate, test both control circuits for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal,
replace the MSM.
8. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the tilt actuator.
Component Testing
Tilt Actuator
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the tilt actuator.
2. Test for less than 2.0 ohms between the control terminal A and the control terminal B.
瀚慖f greater than the specified range, replace the tilt actuator.
Repair Instructions
Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification (See: Verification Tests) after completing the diagnostic procedure.
