You could go and buy a new BMW 3 Series for your next sport sedan or, alternatively, be bold and go with something else that’s all-new and cheaper. Genesis has unveiled pricing for its 2019 G70 sports sedan and, as expected, it undercuts its German competitors. Big time. The 2019 G70 begins at $35,895, including the $995 destination and handling fee.
For that price, you get a G70 equipped with a 2.0-liter inline-four good for 252 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters. Rear-wheel-drive is standard while the cheapest all-wheel drive G70 costs an additional $2,000 for all trims.
The base G70 RWD also comes with a host of standard features, among them dual-zone climate control, hands-free keyless entry and push-button start, 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability, adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, forward collision warning with automatic braking, blind-spot warning, and more.
Its arch-rival, the BMW 3 Series, which is set to be replaced with a redesigned model, will cost you $10k more for a similarly equipped sports sedan. The 2.0-liter turbo G70 is available in six trims, Advanced, Elite, Prestige, Dynamic, Sport and Sport M/T. The latter, beginning at $38,895, is for the enthusiast buyer thanks to its standard RWD, six-speed manual transmission, and an additional 3 hp.
The G70’s optional engine, a 3.3-liter twin-turbo V6 good for 365 hp and 376 lb-ft mated to the same gearbox, is what we sampled during our week with the G70. It begins at $44,745, which gets you the Advanced RWD trim. Along with all of the 2.0’s list of standard items, buyers will further gain a dual exhaust system, Brembo brakes, sport-tuned suspension, full LED headlights, heated and cooled leather seats, a navigation system, and a 15-speaker Lexicon audio system.
The top trim is the 3.3 Turbo Sport AWD for $50,495, which tacks on an adaptive suspension, copper and dark chrome exterior accents, and 19-inch alloy wheels. Because this is a launch year, Genesis is offering two limited-production trims, Design and Dynamic.
Limited to just 400 units each and powered by the V6, the Design Edition, starting at $49,745, is based on the Prestige trim, but further adds Black Forest Green exterior paint, dark green interior, and a Pasubio leather-wrapped steering wheel. The Dynamic Edition, beginning at $51,245, is based on the V6 Sport and tacks on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S summer tires, performance brake pads, upgraded thermal capacity, and electronically controlled suspension tuning. Like the rest of the lineup, AWD is another $2,000. The 2019 Genesis G70 should be available in dealerships any day now.
