- Remove the trunk mat.
- Remove the left and right trunk-liner panels if installing the telephone; otherwise skip to step 6.
- Determine the number and sequence of the D2B components to be installed, then locate and configure all fiber optic cables.
Note: Refer to S-SI-82.64/123, D28 Fiber Optic Configuration and Version Coding for proper handling and configuration of D2B fibers.
7. Proceed to:
- Section B for telephone installation.
- Section G for CD changer only installation.
B. Mounting the PSE and Linear Compensator

2. Mount the linear compensator to the installation bracket with three M4 x 10 screws and nuts (Figure 1). (The green 14-pole connector faces
the two tabs opposite the mounting foot.)
- Mount the PSE to the installation bracket with four M4 x 6 screws (Figure 1).
- Connect the 25-pole side of the telephone Y-cable to the PSE and gently tighten the retaining screws (Figure 1).
- Connect the green 14-pole connector to the linear compensator (Figure 1).
- Tie together the excess cable and place it between the PSE and the compensator (Figure 1).
C. Installing the Completed Bracket Assembly
C. Installing the completed bracket assembly
1. Using the completed bracket assembly to confirm proper location, place the 4-mm threaded insert into the hole in the hat shelf and secure it
with the proper insert tool.
Note: Remove one of the cable retaining clips to install the insert if remote seatback releases are installed. Once the bracket assembly is installed,
remount the clip in the bracket foot hole.
Figure 2
- Route the integrated antenna cable behind the partition panel above the wheel well housing (Figure 2).
- Connect the integrated antenna cable to the linear compensator jack labeled ANTENNA.
- Connect the coaxial cable from the center console to the linear compensator jack labeled PORTABLE.
Note: NO NOT reverse the coaxial connections in steps 3 and 4.
5. Connect the 25-pole Y-cable connector to the mating vehicle side pre-wire harness.

7. Set the two mounting bracket tabs into the slots in the left rear hat shelf and secure the bracket with an M4 x 6 machine screw and washer
(Figure 3).
D. Installing the Handset and Cradle
D. Installing the handset and cradle
1. Open the main armrest compartment and locate the two small recesses on the underside of the tray. Mark and drill two 5-mm (7/32-in.) holes
through the underside of the tray 6-mm (1/4-in.) back from the recesses.
2. Remove the Tele Aid button assembly by removing the screw on the outside of the console tray adjacent to the roadside and information
buttons.
Figure 4
3. Secure the coil-cord cradle strain relief (the strain relief closest to the main coiled portion) to the cradle with a #8 x 1/2-in. sheet metal screw
(Figure 4).

Figure 5
4. Route the coil-cord through the opening in the rear of the tray making sure to route through the notch in the Tele Aid button assembly cover
(Figure 5).
- Reinstall the Tele Aid button assembly and secure it with the previously removed screw.
- Secure the cradle to the console tray by inserting two M4 x 8 machine screws from the bottom into the cradle treaded inserts.
- Open the lower console compartment cover and temporarily remove the Tele Aid button coil-cord from the cable channel.
- Connect the RJ-45 and mini-UHF connectors to the vehicle side connectors.
Figure 6
Note: Be sure that the RJ-45 data cable is routed through cable retaining clip just above the RJ-45 vehicle side jack (Figure 6).
9. Route the telephone coil-cord through the cable channel and then place the Tele Aid coil-cord back into the channel on top of the telephone
coil-cord (Figure 6).

- Remove the three CD changer transport screws and install them into the holding locations in back of the CD changer (Figure 9).
- Set the suspension spring configuration to V (vertical).
- Remove the three adhesive dust covers from the kit and affix them over the transport screw holes in the bottom of the CD changer.
- Remove the right trunk-liner panel and locate the 3-pole electrical connector and fiber optics in the right wheel well.
Figure 10
- Attach the CD changer to the CD mounting bracket with four M4 x 5 machine screws (Figure 10).
- Install the cover by engaging the plastic hinges over the flange on the bracket top edge and then roll the hinges toward the back to lock them.
Note: Verify that the correct fibers (according to other installed accessories [e.g. telephone]), are installed into the fiber connector.
Reconfigure if necessary.
- Connect the 3-pole electrical and fiber optic connectors to the back of the CD changer.
- Reinstall the right trunk-liner panel.
Figure 11
9. Lower the CD changer into the wheel well so that the pin on the bottom of the mounting bracket fits into the prepunched opening on the side
member behind the battery (Figure 11).
10. Position the CD changer so that the tabs on the mounting bracket align over the prepunched factory mounting locations.
11. Secure the top mounts with the provided screws.
F. Version Coding and Diagnostic Testing
F. Version coding and diagnostic testing
1. Connect StarDiagnosis (SDS) to the vehicle and perform the version coding outlined below.
Mercedes Benz C 43 AMG (202.033) V8-4.3L (113.944) Page 164
2. Using path: Control units/Information and communication/D2B/Control module adaptations/D2B nominal configuration, set the D2B ring
configuration per the following table:
3. Return to the D2B functions menu. Using path: Actual values/D2B Actual configuration, verify that the version coding input above (specified
value) matches the actual configuration performed during installation (actual values). If a difference exists, the ring has been improperly
configured and must be disassembled to diagnose and correct the error.
NOTICE!
DO NOT alter the configuration in step F2 to match the vehicle configuration. Failure to have the configuration set as indicated in the table above
will result in erroneous system operation and/or intermittent functioning of some or all components.
4. Check the DTC memory of all installed components and the head unit. Any present DTC(s) should be investigated, the source identified,
corrected, and the DTC memory cleared.
Note: Powering up the newly installed system prior to the above described version coding will set D2B ring configuration errors. These errors may
be ignored during the initial DTC check. If, after clearing the DTC(s), they return in the next step, a configuration error that must be located and
corrected is present.
5. Confirm that no new DTC(s) have been set in the D2B system group.
G. Final Assembly and Function Test
G. Final assembly and function test
- Reinstall the removed panels and trunk mat.
- Program the telephone per S-SI-82.70/124, StarTAC Portable Telephone Programming.
- Verify proper CD changer, telephone, and voice activation (as applicable to equipment installed) operation per the following checklist:
CD Changer
- Disks 1-6 load and unload properly
- Magazine load and eject operates smoothly
- CD sliding door opens/closes properly
- Audio is clear and crisp
- First and last track on the selected CD can be accessed
Telephone
- Handset dialing is functioning
- Head unit dialing is functioning
- Handset incoming/outgoing call audio is clear
- Hands-free incoming/outgoing audio is clear
- Automatic memory download is functioning (It may be necessary to store a test number in the telephone handset for this feature to operate;
stored numbers should be available for dialing from the head unit after automatic download.)
