Brake Squeal
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of brake squeal emanating from the front or rear of the vehicle, perform the
corresponding procedure(s) below.
Note:
This condition can be aggravated by cool, damp weather in combination with light braking effort.
A. Front Brake Squeal Procedure
1. Remove existing brake pads. Reference WIS document AR42.10-P-0161GI.

2. Apply brake pad paste to ends (Figure 1, a) of each of the revised replacement brake pads (Figure 1, 2, and 3) backing plate. Reference
WIS document AR42.10-P-0161-O1GH
Note:
Do not allow any paste to contact brake pad friction surface or apply paste to any other areas besides those specified. Immediately remove
any excess paste that contacts pad front or back surfaces.
3. Install the revised brake pads. Reference WIS document AR42.10-P-0161GI.
B. Rear Brake Squeal Procedure
The rear brake procedure will require the installation of revised brake pads and additional stainless steel shims.
1. Remove existing brake pads. Reference WIS document AR42.10-P-0161GI.
2. Using the revised brake pad kit, prepare the brake pad assembly.
3. Place a stainless steel shim with fixing tab onto the brake pad backing plate.
4. Apply a small amount of brake pad paste (several small points) to the back of the stainless steel shim with fixing tab (Figure 4).
Note:
Do not allow any paste to contact brake pad friction surface or apply paste to any other areas besides those specified. Immediately remove
any excess paste that contacts pad surfaces.
5. Place the additional stainless steel shim without fixing tab on top of the shim which is attached to the brake pad backing plate.
6. Press the shims together in order to ensure a grease film forms between the two shims.
Note:
One set of stainless steel shims is required for each lining. One set consists of 1 shim with fixing tab and 1 shim without fixing tab. All 4

brake pads must receive 1 set of shims.
7. Install the completed brake pads into the brake calipers. Reference WIS document AR42.20-P-0161GI.
