The Bits That Make It Go?

For several months, BMW geeks and car fans in general have been anticipating the arrival of the BMW F87, otherwise known as the M2. The original M car, the 鈥?7 - 鈥?2 BMW M3, chassis code E30, was thought of as a street-legal racing platform. Lightweight, nimble and somewhat raw, the car eventually became a classic, despite selling in small numbers. Over the years, the M3 grew in size and weight, not to mention sales. While all are superb sporting cars, purists thought something may have been lost from that original recipe. The new M2 is smaller and lighter than the current M3/M4 (4 and 2-door, respectively) and might be just what the doctor ordered..! The bits that make it go? The classic BMW inline 6 cylinder motor, 3.0L and turbocharged, massaged to produce 365 hp and 343 lb-ft of torque. I could get even more car geek and talk about Double VANOS, dry sump lubrication, high-pressure injection, but I will refrain. What should you know? With the available DCT dual-clutch transmission, you will hit 60 mph in 4.2 seconds, according to the factory. Remember the rather famous road course in Germany called the Nurburgring that I talked about here? The M2 lapped all 154 turns and 12.93 miles in 7 minutes and 58 seconds..! The latest M machine comes in 4 colors (Long Beach Blue, Alpine White, Black Sapphire and Mineral Grey) with one available interior configuration. You can however, choose your transmission, with the above mentioned 7-speed DCT or an old-school 6-speed manual. If you鈥檙e interested, you may want to call your BMW rep now and get on the list. These will sell like the hottest of hotcakes..!

Porsche has introduced a new, mid-range variant of its flagship performance coupe-SUV, called the Cayenne S Coupe. It features a tuned version of the standard car鈥檚 turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 engine and a wider range of standard equipment, with prices starting from 拢73,658. The Porsche Cayenne S Coupe鈥檚 twin-turbocharged 2.9-litre V6 has around 100bhp and 100Nm more than the standard model, producing a total of 434bhp and 550Nm of torque. Maximum torque is available between 1,800 and 5,500rpm and, much like the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio, the Cayenne S Coupe鈥檚 turbochargers are mounted within the 鈥淰鈥?of the engine, which Porsche claims improves response and reduces weight. The unique turbo setup also allows the engine to be mounted lower in the bay, which improves handling. Standard equipment for the new S Coupe includes a set of 20-inch alloy wheels, park assist, a reversing camera, adaptive suspension, a panoramic glass roof and Porsche鈥檚 Sport Chrono package. As an optional extra, buyers can also spec a carbon fibre roof and a range of lightweight sports packages, which lower the 0-62mph time to 4.9 seconds. Like the base-model, the Cayenne S Coupe gets a 12-inch infotainment system, a digital gauge cluster, a centre-mounted rev counter and a pair of eight-way adjustable sports seats. In addition, the rear bench now only features two individual seats, while the roofline sits 20mm lower than the standard Cayenne.
