Remember the Porsche Cayenne that broke the Nürburgring lap record a couple of weeks ago? Porsche has filled in some blanks - and then some.
The car that turned a 7:38.9-minute lap is called the Cayenne Turbo GT. Its 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 pumps out 631 hp - 90 hp more than the Cayenne Turbo Coupe and 626 lb ft, 59 lb ft more. The new Cayenne can accelerate to 60 mph in 3.1 seconds (!), complete the quarter mile in 11.6 seconds, and “achieves a top track speed of 186 mph, making it the quickest, and fastest production Cayenne ever offered by Porsche,” the company says.
The 2022 Turbo GT is only available in the Coupe body style. You’ll know you’re looking at one from the more-pronounced front lip and larger front air intakes. The roof is carbon fiber and the upper rear wing has carbon fiber side plates. There’s also an adaptive rear spoiler with a two-inch gurney flap.
The Turbo GT has what Porsche calls an “enhanced suspension and high-performance tires standard.” The ride height is .6 inches lower than the Cayenne Turbo Coupe’s and the GT has a 15-percent stiffer three-chamber air suspension controlled with Porsche’s Active Suspension Management (PASM). The Turbo GT also has Porsche’s Power Steering Plus and rear-axle steering system, as well as the company’s Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC). Porsche Torque Vectoring Plus (PTV+) and an improved front axle are designed to sharpen handling and turn-in response. The front wheels are an inch wider compared to the Cayenne Turbo Coupe, and the negative camber has been increased 0.45 degrees so the 22-inch Pirelli P Zero Corsa high performance tires maximize their contact patch. Porsche’s Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) handle the stopping power.
The 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 is the most-powerful V8 Porsche offers. It has a different crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, timing chain and torsional dampers. The eight-speed Tiptronic S transmission has been modified to offer quicker shift times. Porsche says its Traction Management (PTM) system has been fitted with a water-cooled transfer case to further increase the drivetrain’s thermal capacity under high loads. The standard sport exhaust was developed for specifically for this car and is made of lightweight and particularly heat resistant titanium.
Inside are eight-way power Sport Seats in front and sport buckets in the back and all seats are specific to this model. The Turbo GT is the first Cayenne with Porsche’s next-gen communication management system (PCM) designed for improved functionality, a new user interface and new operation logic. The latest PCM is compatible with Apple CarPlay as before, but now also allows for integration of Apple Music and Apple Podcasts. Additionally, the system is now compatible with Android Auto.
Want one? Of course you do! The latest, fastest Cayenne is available to order now and is expected in U.S. dealers early next year. The MSRP is $180,800, plus a $1,350 delivery, processing and handling fee.
