Some customers may comment that the lower chrome trim molding is loose or missing from the area in front of the outside mirror.

Correction

A new lower chrome trim molding kit has been released to correct this concern. The new lower chrome trim molding has four tabs for improved

retention. Replace both lower trim moldings if the trim pieces are missing. There may be vehicles that only have one side missing the lower

molding. For the side that still has the lower trim attached, remove the front fender inner panel access cover and check for the four metal tabs as

shown in the illustration below. If the lower trim molding only has two tabs, replace the molding with the new design.

Service Procedure

1. Remove the front fender inner panel access opening cover using a plastic body trim tool. Begin removing the cover from the upper corner

first, and then work down to the lower corners of the cover.

2. Put the patch assembly on a non-scratching surface and pull back the rubber seal. Use a small flat-bladed screwdriver to disengage the two

tabs. Pry upward on the tabs to disengage them from the front fender inner panel access opening cover channel tab slots.

3. Remove and discard the lower chrome cover trim.

4. Clean the front side of the front fender inner panel access opening cover channel using a clean shop towel and Kent Automotive Acrysol P/N

20005 or equivalent.

5. Ensure that the old tape and glue have been removed from the front fender inner panel access opening cover channel.

6. Remove the tape liner from the new second design lower chrome cover trim.

7. Install the revised lower chrome cover trim to the front side of the front fender inner panel access opening cover channel.

8. Ensure that the lower chrome cover trim tabs are inserted into the front fender inner panel access opening cover channel tab slots that are

located on the back side of the cover.

Side by side gap specification: 0.25 mm +/- 0.25 mm; depth gap specification: -0.5 mm + 0.5 mm.

9. Wet out the revised lower chrome cover trim over the channel of the cover as shown in the illustration.

10. Put the patch assembly on a non-scratching surface. Turn the front fender inner panel access opening cover over on its back side.

11. Using a small flat-bladed screwdriver, ensure that the four tabs (1) are bent flush to the cover channel as shown in the illustration.

12. Peel off the protective wrap that is covering the revised design lower chrome cover trim.

13. Install three new cover retainers (1). Insert the retainers into the three doghouses of the front fender inner panel access opening cover. The

doghouses are located on the back side of the cover.

14. Install the front fender inner panel access opening cover.

1. Engage the lower retention clips of the cover.

2. Engage the upper retention clips of the cover.

3. Ensure that the front fender inner panel access opening cover rubber seal is not protruding from the lower chrome cover trim. If needed,

use a plastic body trim tool to push it under the lower chrome trim.
