Mercedes-Benz Debuts 4x4 Sprinter, Crosswind Assist

Lightweight composite construction means this 50-inch-wide by 17.4-foot-long pickup body with container boxes on the side weighs just 1250 pounds, leaving 4500 pounds for payload. Motivation was provided by one of two four-cylinders: a 1.8-liter, 43-hp diesel or a 1.9-liter 65-hp gas-burner, and yet payload ranged from 3550 to 4250 pounds. McSweeney Designs has delivered one of the new Sprinters and is currently producing the rest in Trussville. Tommy Bahama print designs are used on the separation wall and bathroom walls, there鈥檚 custom fabric in the seating area, and the built-in bar holds Tommy Bahama double old-fashioned and stemless wine glasses. Airstream has teamed up with Tommy Bahama to create a special travel trailer paired with an Airstream Interstate coach, based on the excellent Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van. Twenty-eight feet in length, the Airstream can sleep up to four people, and its queen-size bed comes with Tommy Bahama bedding.



The result is a rig fitted with seating for eight, a table for four and a bedroom for two along with a 19-inch flat-panel LCD TV, a microwave oven, two-burner stove, energy-efficient mini-fridge, auxiliary AC unit, 2.5-watt propane generator and a 32-gallon fresh water tank feeding a water heater, sink, toilet and shower. It seats eight, sleeps two, and offers a full bathroom and galley. A house full of decorations were also put into the van. And from a financial perspective, it's true, provided you're willing to make higher monthly payments, pay off the loan in full and keep the car for a few years. UPDATE 9/28/18, 12:00 p.m.: Honda is recalling an additional one million cars to replace Takata passenger-side airbag inflators. One of the largest commercial vans on the market, the 2020 Nissan NV cargo van and NV passenger van are traditional full-size, rear-wheel-drive vehicles designed to meet the needs of businesses. All of them are more efficient, larger and more capable than any of the truck-based old-school full-size vans. Sprinter GVW ratings exempt it from EPA fuel economy testing, but Mercedes claims the V-6 delivers nearly 25 mpg on the highway (30 percent better than similar gasoline powertrains), and the I-4 is said to be 18 percent more efficient than the V-6 turbodiesel. Recalled are 2019 Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 1500, 2500, 3500 and 4500 vans with manual turn switches. Of approximately 37 million vehicles recalled to replace frontal driver鈥檚- and passenger-side inflators, the 2006 Ranger is considered to be one of the most dangerous because of its potential to spray shrapnel in a crash.



Toyota will replace them again with "an improved one produced by non-Takata suppliers." The affected vehicles are 2002-2005 Lexus SC430 and Toyota Sequoia and 2003-2005 Corolla and Tundra models. UPDATE 12/13/18, 10:00 a.m.: Toyota has announced a repeat recall for some 65,000 vehicles that had previously been recalled to replace their Takata passenger-side airbags.
