Event Update

Rowing Australia (RA) today provided an update on upcoming events for 2020 in light of the current COVID-19 pandemic.

It is with regret that RA announces that the 2020 Hancock Prospecting Rower of the Year Awards, that were scheduled to take place in November this year, have been cancelled. The decision to cancel this year’s event is due to that fact RA would only be able to present half of the award winners normally recognised on the night (14 in total), due to the lack of domestic and international racing for judging panels.

In addition, the decision was made in light of the current Government restrictions on mass gatherings and uncertainty as to how long these restrictions will be in place.

The Rowing Australia Coaches’ Conference was scheduled to be held in October 2020, however this has now been postponed to late 2021, post the Olympic and Paralympic Games. This is taking into account again the current Government restrictions around mass gatherings and the uncertainty as to when these restrictions will be revised.

Should RA be able to host an abridged Interstate Regatta in late 2020, then we will look to also host a coach education seminar in addition to a Coaches’ Conference in 2021.

Internationally, the 2020 World University Championships that were due to be held in Zagreb, Croatia from 27 to 29 August 2020 have been cancelled in light of the currently COVID-19 pandemic.

Rowing Australia is in regular contact with FISA in regards to updates to its 2020/21 competition calendar, including the currently planned 2020 World Rowing Championships (Junior, Under 23 and Senior). This event is due to take place in Bled, Slovenia from 16 to 23 August 2020.
