For the first time ever, Range Rover decided to add a second car to its line-up. With the company's reputation at stake, the Range Rover Sport had to be good. If fact it had to be better than good, it had to be incredible. The good news is, it is. The Range Rover Sport is a smaller squatter version of its big brother, the Range Rover, with its meaner more aggressive styling and big wheels hiding nothing of its intention. The interior on the other hand is an opulent paradise for driver and all passengers, as you would expect. With the same seating position as the bigger Range Rover, you are able to look down on other traffic and really feel like you own the road. There are four engines available. Regardless of which engine you opt for, the Range Rover Sport won't disappoint. Based on an upgraded Discovery platform it has been designed to handle like a smaller car whilst retaining the comfort and off road capabilities you would expect from a Range Rover. The prestigious Land Rover Range Rover brand has created a luxury sport utility vehicle this year that proves the company is focused on consistently out-doing itself - the Range Rover Supercharge. And Imagine Lifestyles has added one to our fleet of luxury rental cars. Land Rover has a reputation of both on and off-road prowess, a legend on four-wheels. For that reason, the Supercharge was crafted for rugged off-roading, and to entice on the regular roadways as well. We have always been impressed with Land Rover Range Rover as a brand, and have invested in it many times. Specs of the five passenger Supercharge Range Rover include a 4.2-liter superchargedV8 engine capable of 400 horsepower. The V8 was an environmentally friendly option, the Supercharge still has plenty of muscle, but consumes less fuel than a V10 or V12 would.
Two editions are available, the HSE and the Supercharge. The Range Rover HSE features a 4.4-liter V8 engine, capable of 305 horsepower. Both powerplants have six-speed automatic transmissions with CommandShift manual shift mode, full-time four-wheel drive with Land Rover's acclaimed "Terrain Response" system and electronic air suspension. The only challenge is to find the most rugged destination you can locate, and feel the vehicle respond! The HSE comes standard with 19-inch alloy wheels, bi-xenon headlights, a power sunroof, heated leather seats, satellite radio, Bluetooth wireless connectivity and a navigation system. The Supercharged includes all of the standard HSE amenities, and takes some of them a notch further. The legs on the Supercharge are exclusive 20-inch alloy wheels, interior leather and wood trim are upgraded, front seats are both heated and cooled, four-zone climate control and there is a rear seat entertainment system. One could effectively live inside. With all that off-roading potential, safety is accounted for in every step of the design process.
G-Class Escalade Navigation step aside; when it comes to an off-road vehicle fit for a prince, a Land Rover Range Rover is the only one that fits the bill. Be it the royalty of the Hollywood jungle or the English Royals themselves, when it comes to a high-end sport Ute swimming luxury, the Land Rover Range Rover is the sole off-roader with the title of having the Windsor's approval. On the outside the Rover has had only a light cosmetic upgrade to the bumpers, grill and headlamp shape; it doesn't appear much different at first glance from its predecessor. The 4.2-liter that powered last years Rover HSE has been tossed for a 5.0-liter V8 that has upped the previous models 305 hp to a healthy 375 hp. When it comes to handling the road, to help with body role on corners and improve overall ride quality, the Adaptive Dynamics System has been revised. Both models are quite agile, feeling solidly stable this SUV is a good everyday driver; the steering can be a little slow but it progresses nicely, everyday driving not overlooked.
We did a lot of driving in the coupe, and ended up putting 1000 km of highway travel and a full week of city driving on it. We averaged 8.3 L/100 km (28 US mpg) which I found very impressive. It鈥檚 no barn-burner, but the 3594 lb (1630 kg) coupe scoots from 0-60mph (0-100 km/h) in 6.0 seconds which is very respectable and does not feel slow. The power delivery is creamy smooth and completely linear, so you won鈥檛 ever get slammed back into your seat. Pick up one of the hairy-chested AMG C63 coupes (with 469 or 503 horsepower!) if that鈥檚 your thing. With all that said, the C300 has plenty of power around town and on the highway. For a turbo 4, I thought the engine sounded pretty good but you won鈥檛 hear it very often unless you鈥檙e putting the go-pedal down. Actually it鈥檚 five modes, because there鈥檚 also the customizable Individual mode. The transmission is mostly very good.
