2019 Mercedes A-Class Sedan Is Cheap Only
The Mercedes-Benz CLA is no longer the German automaker鈥檚 cheapest new model that you can purchase in the U.S. 32,500, exactly the same as the 2019 Audi A3 Sedan. This particular one however is far from entry-level, as reviewer Doug DeMuro explains just how well equipped it is, falling just shy of nailing a really good score in the on-board tech department. Since the all-new CLA won鈥檛 go on sale in the U.S. A-Class Sedan with the first-generation CLA, which isn鈥檛 much of a fair fight. DeMuro mentions how the cabin of the 2019 A-Class Sedan is greatly improved when considering that of the old CLA, from both a build quality standpoint as well as available technology. He also found the car reasonably comfortable, especially in the back with regards to headroom. In the end, the 2019 Mercedes A 220 Sedan looks like a very capable car, the quintessential baby Mercedes-Benz. 8,900 and get a C-Class, are all valid questions to ask yourself.
The latest version of the vehicle that launched Alabama鈥檚 auto industry is expected to arrive in dealer showrooms this spring. The redesigned 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE SUV is yet another key milestone for the automaker鈥檚 Tuscaloosa County factory, which has been in near continuous expansion mode since it began producing vehicles more than 20 years ago. Back then, it was the M-Class SUV that helped christen the plant and a statewide sector that now turns out around 1 million models annually. Mercedes renamed the vehicle the GLE several years ago, and the legacy continues. The 2020 GLE had several high-profile unveilings last fall, notably the Paris Motor Show. Kaellenius is also a former head of Mercedes鈥?Alabama operations, Mercedes-Benz U.S. International, and he is in line to succeed Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche later this year. Key changes in the new GLE include better on- and off-road handling, an optional third row of seats and a new E-Active Body Control chassis that offers a smoother ride.
Driver assistance systems are improved with Active Stop-and-Go Assist that enables the vehicle to recognize traffic jams at an early stage and support the driver in stop-and-go traffic. Other new features include an enlarged panoramic sunroof with a 50 percent larger viewing area, 4-Zone Climate Control, Inductive Wireless Charging and the intuitively operated infotainment system Mercedes-Benz User Experience with Voice Control and natural language understanding. Under the hood, the new GLE will launch with a variety of engine offerings, including a 2.0-liter Inline-4 turbo engine for the GLE 350 and GLE 350 4MATIC that produces 255 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. The GLE 450 4MATIC, meanwhile, has a new 3.0-liter inline six-cylinder turbo engine with EQ boost that produces 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. It is also systematically electrified with 48-volt technology. Mercedes also showed off the 2020 GLE last fall at a groundbreaking ceremony for the company鈥檚 new plant in Bibb County that will supply battery packs for the company鈥檚 Alabama-made electric vehicles. Prior to the ceremony, workers in Tuscaloosa County had celebrated the start of production for the updated model. The factory supplies the GLE, along with the GLE Coupe and GLS, to markets around the globe. Worldwide, more than 5 million drivers have chosen a Mercedes-Benz SUV, and the GLE is the best-selling SUV in the history of the company. Last year alone, Mercedes鈥?Alabama workers produced 235,000 vehicles. 鈥淭he successful story of the Mercedes-Benz Tuscaloosa plant began with the start of production of the M-Class 21 years ago,鈥?said Jason Hoff, MBUSI president and CEO. 鈥淲e are proud to see further investment into Tuscaloosa, which underlines the effort and teamwork by all our team members.
In 2012, Mercedes-Benz decided to turn the A-class from a high-roof hatchback (with a sandwich-floor layout designed for electrification) into a much lower, wider, and longer compact car with decidedly sporting aspirations. At the time, the move seemed slightly counterintuitive. Now Mercedes is launching the second generation of 鈥渢he new A-class,鈥?which actually is the fourth generation overall. It is slightly bigger and even sportier than the outgoing model. Outside, the model has lost a bit of the predecessor鈥檚 cheekiness, and the new A-class looks a lot more serious. The aggressive upward kink on the flanks is gone, and the car now features a distinct wedge shape, with a front end that closely resembles that of the larger CLS. Photos of the U.S.-market A-class sedan have not yet been released, but we can safely assume it will be visually aligned with the China-market A-class sedan, which was revealed there in April.
