2019 Ford Mustang Mach-E: Everything To Know

2019 Ford Mustang Mach-E: Everything To Know

The look and some specs on the 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E electric crossover have already been seen, but as of 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17, the car and even more details have officially been released. Here鈥檚 your complete download. Meanwhile, I鈥檒l gather the important numbers and claims for you up top. It looks like Ford is putting a lot of asterisks out with its specs, which, what the hell is that all about? It couldn鈥檛 have locked down some claims before the reveal party? Take these figures with even more salt than you鈥檇 usually heap on an automaker鈥檚 claims. So, like, all the salt. And maybe a margarita while you鈥檙e at it. Anyway, all this info鈥檚 from Ford directly. You can check out the press release for yourself if you think anything鈥檚 missing. There will be 鈥渟tandard鈥?(75.7 kWh lithium-ion battery) and 鈥渆xtended-range鈥?(98.8 kWh battery) options you鈥檒l be able to order with rear-drive or all-wheel drive powered by permanent magnet motors.

鈥淒esigned for ease of manufacturing, the battery is located on the floor between the vehicle鈥檚 two axles - and tested at temperatures as extreme as minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit. The batteries are secured inside a waterproof battery case surrounded by crash-absorption protection. The FordPass Charging Network will have more than 12,500 charging stations 鈥?and more than 35,000 charge plugs)鈥?will have a peak charging rate of 150 kW. 鈥淭he Mustang Mach-E with an extended battery and rear-wheel drive can add an estimated average of 47 miles of range in approximately 10 minutes while charging on a DC fast charging station,鈥?as long as everything鈥檚 working right. GT 鈥渋s targeting鈥?a zero-60 time under four seconds while GT Performance 鈥渋s targeting鈥?a zero-60 time around 3.5 seconds. It鈥檚 supposed to put down 鈥渁n estimated鈥?459 horsepower and 612 lb-ft of torque. MagneRide suspension will also be on this model. New Flexira aluminum calipers made by Brembo will be optional, which apparently 鈥渕aintain the functionality of a fixed caliper while being designed with the dimensions of a floating caliper.鈥?We鈥檒l have to look into the specifics of those later. Mach-E will have three drive modes: Whisper, Engage and Unbridled which, I guess, are 鈥渆fficient, normal, fast.鈥?Or, Ying-Yang Twins, Jean-Luc Picard, and, I don鈥檛 know, Black Stallion? Is anybody else lame enough to find that funny? Ford鈥檚 next version of its SYNC infotainment operating system will debut in the Mach-E, running on a colossal 15.5-inch screen. Expect a lot of touch, swipe and pinch controlling there. Apparently it will be updated over-the-air, like other electric cars with similar infotainment rigs that you might have heard of. The frunk (front-trunk) is drainable, which is neat, and claims 4.8 cubic feet of cargo capacity. There鈥檚 supposed to be 29 cubic feet of space in the rear trunk, and 59.6 cubic feet with back the seats down.

The car has been driven very little since restoration and all of the engine compartment finishes are as good as new. The transmission is a rebuilt FMX with a manual valve body. This shifting configuration really brings the engine alive under harder acceleration yet allows for smooth cruising. The rear end is a completely rebuilt unit which has 3.50 limited slip gears for good hook up off the line. The suspension and brakes received a total overhaul during the restoration and are fresh from front to rear. The correct color for the undercarriage of the 1970 Mustang was actually a mixture of all the factory colors. It comes out as a sort of blackish purple as seen on the undercarriage of this fine Pony car. The Competition Yellow overspray marks have even been replicated and the gas tank is finished in the correct cast silver hue. All of the factory painted inspection marks are in place and the front suspension is appropriately detailed as well. The Mustang is like new underneath. The interior of the car is new from top to bottom and has a set of rebuilt gauges, a restored steering wheel, all new soft parts, all new trim pieces and new carpeting. All of the stainless trim is new reproduction stuff as are the front and rear chrome bumpers. The headliner has been done very well and the car is equipped with the fold down rear seat.

There is an avalanche of reactions following last night鈥檚 world premiere of the all-new 2021 Mustang Mach-E鈥擣ord鈥檚 highly anticipated next-generation EV. Fans and the media are talking about it at length, particularly on social media, and it鈥檚 only just the beginning. Even some of the competitors have shared their views and comments. Tesla, whose upcoming Model Y will directly rival the Mustang Mach-E, is one of them. Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted on Sunday. Was he sincere or merely diplomatic? One way or the other, Musk didn鈥檛 take a jab at Ford like he previously did with Porsche. We鈥檝e already told you about the growing war between the Tesla Model S and the all-new Taycan. Many were quick to point out similarities between Ford鈥檚 newest star and Tesla products. In addition to a choice of two batteries, there鈥檚 the small trunk under the hood, the giant 15-inch display on the dashboard and the fact that Ford will offer over-the-air software updates just like Tesla. What鈥檚 more, there will be a FordPass network of more than 12,000 charging stations across North America. Unlike Tesla鈥檚 Superchargers, however, these charging stations will not be owned and managed by Ford but rather by company partners. Customers can make a reservation for the Mustang Mach-E right now by visiting the Ford Canada website.
