Scan Tool Reference
Control Module References (See: Testing and Inspection/Programming and Relearning) for scan tool information
Circuit/System Verification
1. Ignition ON, observe the scan tool Steering Wheel Position parameter. The reading should correspond with the actual steering wheel position
as the steering wheel is turned through its entire range of motion.
2. Observe the scan tool Digital HWPS Index Pulse parameter. The parameter should cycle between Low and High as the steering wheel is
centered and then turned through its entire range of motion.
Circuit/System Testing
Note: If only DTC C0710 is set refer to Only DTC C0710 Set, if both DTC C0710 and C1100 are set, refer to Both DTC C0710 and C1100 Set.
Only DTC C0710 Set
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the steering angle sensor.
2. Ignition OFF, scan tool disconnected, all vehicle systems OFF, this may take up to 2 minutes, test for less than 20 ohm between the low
reference circuit terminal 2 and ground.
瀚慖f greater than the specified range, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
3. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminal 1 and ground.
瀚慖f less than the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal,
replace the EBCM.
瀚慖f greater than the specified range, test the 5 V reference circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
4. Test for 4.8-5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminal 1 and the signal circuit terminal 6.
瀚慖f not within the specified range, test the signal circuit for short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace
the EBCM.
5. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the EBCM.
6. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 4 and ground.
瀚慖f not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground.
7. Connect the harness connector at the EBCM.
Note: When measuring voltage, the voltage values are based on a battery charge of 12.5 V and the steering wheel is in the center position.
8. Ignition ON, at the steering angle sensor connector harness, test for 6.8-11 V between the signal circuit terminals listed below and ground.
* Phase A terminal 3
* Phase B terminal 4
* Phase C terminal 5
瀚慖f less than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace
the EBCM.
瀚慖f greater than the specified range, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage. If the circuit tests normal, replace the EBCM.
9. If the circuits test normal, replace the steering angle sensor.
Both DTC C0710 and C1100 Set
1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the brake booster vacuum sensor and the steering angle sensor.
2. Ignition ON, test for 4.8-5.2 V between the 5 V reference circuit terminals listed below and ground.
* Terminal 3 at the brake booster vacuum sensor
* Terminal 1 at the steering angle sensor
瀚慖f less than the specified range, test both 5 V reference circuits for a short to ground. If the circuits test normal, replace the EBCM.
瀚慖f greater than the specified range, test both 5 V reference circuits for a short to voltage. If the circuits test normal, replace the EBCM.
