1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1
This 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 looks like a very original car with decent options and low miles. Claimed to be in excellent mechanical health, the seller says he鈥檇 take it cross country tomorrow. There鈥檚 some rust to sort out but it presents nicely as-is and I鈥檓 digging the factory body graphics and chunky wheel trim rings. 16,000 and be sure to go here if the ad disappears. I love seeing worn original paint and bumper stickers that tell the story of a car used for everything from grocery runs to amusement park trips. The seller says this Mach 1 was actually parked in 1984 due to a faulty ignition coil and not moved until earlier this year when it was sold as part of an estate sale. The nicely-preserved chrome on the bumpers and 鈥淢ach 1鈥?graphics on the trunk lid point to a car that spent a fair amount of time indoors. The interior also presents incredibly well, and along with the preserved paint, help lend some credence to the low mileage claims. While the odometers have a poor track record for accuracy from this era, this certainly is an interior more fitting of a 41,000 mile car than a 141,000 mile example. The dash pad looks a bit tired but the door panels, console, seats and carpets all look quite good. While we鈥檇 love to see a manual transmission in here, the automatic suits the 351 just fine. Speaking of the motor, the seller has addressed some additional maintenance items but says he kept the originals of any parts he replaced. Recent fixes include the ignition coil as well as a replacement gas tank, fresh tires, and a new carburetor and radiator. The rust I mentioned demands replacement floors, and the seller notes there are some small holes in the trunk wheel wells. Overall, this Mach 1 looks like an honest driver with lots of low-cost cruising miles ahead.
Big block cars had front shock tower reinforcement, thicker sway bars (no rear bar for 69), and heavier springs and shocks. 428 CJ/SCJ 4 speed cars also came with staggered rear shocks. Standard on Mach 1s was a fierce but cosmetic hood scoop that had integrated turn-signal lights mounted in the back. A more functional option was the signature "Shaker hood", an air scoop mounted directly to the top of the motor, used to collect fresh air and so named for its tendency to "shake" above the rumbling V-8 below. The interior came complete with teak wood grain details, full sound deadening material and high-back sport bucket seats. In 1969 endurance driver Mickey Thompson took three Mach 1 Mustangs to the Bonneville salt flats for a feature in Hot Rod magazine, in the process setting 295 speed and endurance records over a series of 500-mile and 24-hour courses. Ford kept the Mach 1 alive into 1970 and little changed other than the visuals. 73 mach 1 Q code Really?
Not everyone is keen on the idea of an electric Ford Mustang crossover, but the Mustang Mach-E is definitely happening anyway. If you鈥檙e one of the naysayers, maybe you鈥檒l like it better when you see all the photos and specs鈥攚hich you鈥檙e about to do. Someone at Ford published what appears to be an early version of the reservation site for the 2020 Mustang Mach E late Thursday evening, which was brought to our attention by the folks inhabiting the Mach-E Forum. The site went down very quickly, in the course of us writing this post, but this ain鈥檛 our first rodeo. 7,500 federal EV tax credit. The Mach-E comes in rear- or all-wheel drive. Ford says the extended range RWD version of the Mach-E will be capable of 300 miles of range, while the GT model with select options will be able to hit a mid-three-second 0-60 mph sprint. Not bad at all. Range is estimated at 270 miles for the First Edition, about 230 for the GT and Select, and then 300 for the others. Also not bad. The upper-trim cars seem to be AWD only. Interestingly, the site says that the car will be able to gain 47 miles of range in just 10 minutes of charge. That鈥檚 still not quite as convenient as a gasoline fill up, but considering most EV charging is done at home overnight, it鈥檚 a nice time for a top-up to get you the final few miles home if you need it. Also inside: two big digital displays, most notably a Tesla-style tablet screen on the center console. That鈥檚 a bigger range of vehicles than we expected, but it all seems like the right price for the job. Maybe this Mustang-inspired electric SUV won鈥檛 be the end of the world after all.
