Bugatti Could Be Working On A Hardcore Chiron SS

Superleggera and Apera versions of the Chiron are also allegedly in the works.

Bugatti unveiled the Divo hypercar as the ultimate version of the Chiron, combining striking styling harking back to the company’s coachbuilding days along with sharper handling. According to a report by Automobile, the Divo could be the first in a series of limited-edition Chiron-based cars to help boost sales.

Citing unnamed insiders, the publications claims Bugatti is working on Superleggera, SS and Aperta versions of the Chiron. As the name implies, the Chiron Superleggera would be extremely lightweight, more aerodynamically efficient and have a limited production run.

The Chiron SS, on the other hand, would be more hardcore and track-focused. Going by the Veyron SS, we're expecting it to feature a more powerful version of Bugatti’s quad-turbocharged W16 engine and lighter components. The Aperta would follow in the vein of the Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse that was introduced towards the end of the Veyron’s lifecycle and feature a removable hardtop roof.

Intriguingly, Automobile also claims Bugatti is considering collaborating with Porsche and Rimac to develop a pure-electric hypercar. Italian manufacturer Dallara, which constructs carbon fiber chassis for race cars in IndyCar and Formula One, may also be involved with the project.

In addition to more limited-edition Chiron variants, Bugatti could also add a second car to its line-up. A mystery model was recently spotted under a sheet sporting sedan proportions, suggesting that Bugatti’s Galibier concept could finally be entering production. Fingers crossed.
