Small-User Experience: Lexus Releases First Pic Of UX Compact Crossover

The Lexus UX subcompact crossover has the BMW X2 and the Mercedes-Benz GLA-class in its crosshairs. After its scheduled debut at the 2018 Geneva auto show, the UX is expected to make its way to our shores before the end of the year. Not much else is known about the little Lexus crossover, although based on this image we can see that it will offer both a hybrid powertrain and an F Sport body kit. Additionally, a short teaser video鈥攅mbedded below鈥攕hows the UX with a modern dashboard design that includes a large infotainment screen and controls inspired by the Lexus LC coupe and LS sedan flagship. Based on trademarks Toyota has filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, we expect Lexus to sell the subcompact crossover in UX200, UX250, and UX250h variants. We鈥檇 wager the entry-level UX200 will be motivated by Toyota鈥檚 new Dynamic Force 2.0-liter inline-four engine, which is also making its debut at the Geneva auto show and, according to Toyota, will produce 169 horsepower and 151 lb-ft of torque. The pricier UX250 will likely come fitted with the 2.5-liter inline-four from the Toyota Camry, where the engine makes as much as 206 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. Finally, the gasoline-electric UX250h is a likely candidate for the company鈥檚 hybrid-specific Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine. Toyota claims the 2.0-liter inline-four will produce 143 horsepower on its own. With the additional output of Toyota鈥檚 two-motor hybrid technology, as well as a possible third electric motor powering the rear axle, the UX250h will probably offer a minimum of 190 combined horsepower. We鈥檒l know more about the Lexus UX once it formally bows on March 6. Keep an eye on our Geneva auto show page to keep up on the latest news from the show floor.

In the higher tune, the engine puts out 241 Bhp and 500 Nm of peak torque. In the lower state of tune, the engine churns out 192 Bhp and 400 Nm torque. The petrol unit, on the other hand, is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder mill that produces a maximum power of 181 Bhp at 5,800-6,100 rpm and develops 280 Nm of peak torque at 3,000-4,000 rpm. The petrol engine comes paired with what Mercedes calls the 鈥楨Q Boost鈥? It is a mild-hybrid system that comes with a 48-volt electric motor and offers an additional 16 bhp and 160 Nm of torque. Transmission duties are taken care of by the tried and tested 9G Tronic automatic unit on all variants. The base model of the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, the 220d Prime has a sticker price of Rs. 40 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) while the top of the line 300d AMG Line variant retails for Rs. 48.50 lakhs.
