Mercedes Announces Prices For Facelifted New C-Class Range
Mercedes has announced new pricing for its facelifted C-Class saloon and estate range. The new cars are available to order now, with deliveries starting in July - prices for the C-Class range now begin at 拢33,180 on the road for the petrol-engined C 200 SE saloon. There鈥檚 a bewildering line-up of trims and options available, but the engine lineup is fairly simple at launch, with two petrols and a diesel engine available. The C 200 has an all-new 1.5-litre petrol engine that uses a 48V mild hybrid system to boost both power and efficiency. That model is available in rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. All eyes might be on the death of diesel, but a stealthier demise here is the fact that all models come as standard with a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission. Spec-wise, SE models come as standard with Agility Control comfort suspension, 17-inch alloy wheels, collision prevention assist, reversing camera, heated front seats, DAB radio, satnav and cruise control. For an additional 拢1,650, the Sport trim line adds comfort suspension lowered by 15mm; LED high-performance headlights and sports seats upholstered in Artico man-made leather.
AMG Line standard equipment includes 18-inch alloys, sports suspension, AMG bodystyling, AMG sports seats and sports braking system with perforated front brake discs. AMG Line models are available for 拢1,495 over Sport models. The C 43 AMG model comes as standard with 18-inch alloy wheels; AMG sports suspension, AMG bodystyling and a number of other AMG body touches. A performance exhaust can be added to the C 43 for 拢1,000, as well as an exterior carbonfibre package that can be specified for 拢1,260. AMG performance seats can be added for 拢1,405. The Premium equipment line is available on all models for 拢2,795 and includes a 12.3-inch cockpit display, fancy ambient lighting with a choice of 64 colours, Mercedes鈥?Comand Online system, LED lights and wireless phone charging. The Premium Plus line contains everything in the Premium package and adds a Burmester surround sound system, keyless go and a panoramic sunroof for 拢4,995. The optional Driving Assistance package (拢1,695) comprises blind spot assist, lane keep assist, cross-traffic assistance, stop/start, city braking with pedestrian detection and Pre-Safe Plus, which helps minimise injury in an accident. The Airmatic Dynamic Handling package costs 拢895 and adds air suspension, enabling the driver to adapt the suspension setup to the road conditions. See, we said it was bewildering. Check out some of the stats and prices for the revised Mercedes C-Class below.
Toggling from the default Comfort mode to the Sport modes changes the car鈥檚 personality in tangible ways. It鈥檚 like it does a quick wardrobe change, switching from business wear to a fitness outfit. The car holds gears for faster and more aggressive acceleration, and optimizes the steering and chassis for athleticism. As a result, the 2019 C 300 turns into a more dynamic, fun-to-drive sedan. By our seat-of-the pants feel, it doesn鈥檛 have quite the sharpness of a BMW 3 series or Audi A4, but it鈥檚 respectably agile in corners and flingable enough to be fun. Back in comfort mode, we still crown the Mercedes as the plushest sedan in its class. On the efficiency side of things, official EPA ratings are still to come, but Mercedes reps estimate the 2019 C 300 will be approximately 4 percent more fuel-frugal than the current model. For those craving a sportier experience, there鈥檚 the C 300 Coupe and Cabriolet.
These 2-doors are more individualistic, seating four passengers instead of the sedan鈥檚 five, and each boasts a svelte design. The Cabriolet feels less rigid, something of a given since it swaps a metal roof for a retractable fabric top. It鈥檚 a tick slower off the line, but the difference is nominal at a few tenths of a second. What the C-Class Cabriolet excels at is the very thing it鈥檚 made for: top-down, luxury-car cruising. What it lacks in outright agility it makes up for in experience. The aroma of grassy fields, the warmth of sun on skin, and the wafting of air in your hair are part and parcel to this particular C-Class experience. The C 300 C-Class Coupe, meanwhile, has the rigidity of the sedan and the flair and athletic stance that comes with a coupe. It鈥檚 fun to push, and looks great while doing so. Regardless of body style, what all three C 300 models have in common is a great transmission.
