Mercedes-Benz might be the next German automaker to stop offering diesel engines in the U.S. Like BMW earlier this year, Mercedes is experiencing a delay in diesel certifications in the U.S. EPA following Volkswagen's diesel emissions scandal. Although the automaker is currently working to get certification on a limited number of diesel models, it may not endure the process again in the future. According to Matthias Luehrs, vice president of sales and product management for Mercedes-Benz Cars, the German automaker is conducting market research on U.S. 2016 L.A. Auto Show. He added that dropping diesel offerings in the U.S. North America has been low "and is still lowering" for cars and crossovers. As for the certifications, it is currently waiting for, the company is confident that in most of the cases it will be approved. Its current priority is receiving EPA certification for the GLS350d, which uses a V6 diesel engine. Mercedes is also seeking certification for at least four diesel models in the U.S., including the GLS, GLC, GLE and C-Class sedan.

X3s equipped with the M Sport package get a new M leather steering wheel. A diesel-powered X3 offers the best fuel economy without sacrificing torque. Driver鈥檚 Choice All variants of the X3 offer exceptional driving dynamics for the class, so they鈥檙e more fun and engaging to drive than many crossovers. Sum Up: A strong entry in the luxury crossover segment despite its age. Minor: The iDrive multimedia interface in the 2017 BMW X5 has been upgraded to the newest version and now comes with a touchscreen. Wireless charging and a Wi-Fi hot spot are now part of the Premium package in the 35i, 35d, and 40e variants or the Executive package in the 50i trim. A new design package called Ivory White Interior is available and comes with two-tone Ivory White/Black upholstery and dashboard plus and black carpeting. Best Buy: The X5 xDrive35d has the best combination of power, fuel economy, and space.

Sum Up: A large crossover that鈥檚 trying to be everything at once. Minor: Like its sibling the X5, the 2017 BMW X6 also receives the new version of iDrive, which now features a touchscreen. In addition to new alloy wheel designs, a new xLine trim adds aluminum window trim, Cerium Gray grille and front air intakes, and front and back underbody cladding. Wireless charging and a Wi-Fi hot spot are part of the Premium package in the 35i trim or the Executive package in the 50i grade. Driver鈥檚 Choice: Go for the X6 M if you want your attack armadillo to mix it up with the best sports cars on or off the track. Sum Up: One of the loudest, most obnoxious vehicles you can buy today. Look For: A successor on a stretched version of the recently revealed 2017 GMC Acadia. Sum Up: Still a best-seller despite its age.

Major: The Buick Encore receives a significant refresh, which includes a new front fascia that features the colored tri-shield logo. Inside the cabin is where the most changes were made; the Encore has a revised dash layout with an 8.0-inch touchscreen and an upgraded IntelliLink multimedia interface with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. The 153-hp, direct-injected, 1.4-liter, turbo I-4 is now available on more trim levels in addition to the Sport Touring. Look For: Full LED headlights on higher trims of the 2017 Encore. Sum Up: The tiniest Buick gets a new look to keep buyers coming back for an encore. Minor: After a short 2016 model year run, the Buick Envision returns for 2017 with a lower starting price thanks to a new 197-hp, 2.5-liter I-4 joining the lineup as the base engine. Standard features include a power liftgate, 18-inch alloy wheels, a rearview camera, an 8.0-inch touchscreen, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Higher trim levels with the 2.0-liter turbo-four get navigation, a Bose audio system, and perforated leather upholstery.

Cool Fact: The Buick Envision is assembled in GM鈥檚 factory in Yantai, China. Sum Up: Still a best-seller despite its age. Minor: The Cadillac Escalade isn鈥檛 likely to receive a big overhaul, nor will its long-wheelbase variant, the Escalade ESV. However, it鈥檚 likely that the SUV will receive additional features, possibly automatic parking assist, along with new exterior colors and alloy wheel designs. A 420-hp, 6.2-liter V-8 backed by an eight-speed automatic transmission should remain the only engine for the 2017 Escalade and Escalade ESV. Look For: Seating for up to eight passengers and a maximum cargo capacity of 120.9 cubic feet in the Escalade ESV. Sum Up: Audaciously excessive opulence in the form of an American SUV. All-New: The 2017 XT5 replaces the SRX as the brand鈥檚 compact luxury crossover offering, and it comes with a new 3.6-liter V-6 paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Compared to the crossover it replaces, the XT5 is nearly 300 pounds lighter but offers more passenger space.
