ISSUE:

When attempting to load software version JTP 627/5, an MPA error may occur. In addition, MPA may not initialize or may appear to lock up. This

problem has been caused by a damaged file on the JTP 627/5 CD-ROM. This will be corrected on the next release to be issued early in June.

ACTION:

If the above condition occurs, DO NOT return the MPA to GenRad.

Use the following procedure to recover the MPA.

^ Disconnect the MPA from the PDU and base station.

^ Connect the dealer flight recorder (DFR) button (issued with the MPA kit) to the MPA.

^ Reconnect all MPA connectors except the vehicle diagnostic connector (J1962).

*^ Press and hold the DFR button while reconnecting the diagnostic connector. (Hold the button in a manner that allows you to see the green LED

in the button).

^ Release the DFR button as soon as the green LED in the DFR button illuminates. (must be within 2 seconds)*

^ The green DFR LED will go out, wait approximately 5 seconds.

^ Once the green DFR LED reilluminates, immediately press and release the DFR button once (must be within 1 second).

The MPA will now be reset ready to receive new data, load any JTP 627/4 powertrain diagnostic application up to the stage of connecting the MPA

to the vehicle. From this point JTP 627/5 may also be reinstalled and used normally. Note that an MPA which has not been used for a long time may

need to be reloaded with JTP 627/4 before using JTP 627/5.

The above condition will not appear if JTP 627/4 was loaded prior to JTP 627/5.
