Incorrect Retaining Bolt -

Vehicle Jack - Service Action S115

Issue:

S-TYPE vehicles within the above VIN range may have the wrong retaining bolt for correct retention of the vehicle jack. The bolt may be too short,

and may not allow full engagement to secure the jack and associated foam pack containing the towing eye to the floor pan. This condition may cause

a rattle from the luggage compartment.

Action:

At the first service opportunity, install a longer retaining bolt and correctly arrange and, if necessary, relocate the toam pack that houses the towing

eye as described below.

PROCEDURE

2000 Jaguar S-Type (X200) V6-3.0L Page 168

1. Release and open the lid of the luggage compartment.

2. Remove the spare tire cover and, where applicable, the foam surround of the spare wheel.

3. Remove the support pad and the spare tire retaining wing nut and washer. Lift out the spare tire.

4. If the retaining bolt for the jack has a downward-pointing cone on its stem, remove and discard the bolt. Remove the jack along with the

molded foam block that stores the towing eye.

5. If necessary, remove and discard any tie strap connecting the jack retaining bolt and the molded foam block.

6. If necessary, rearrange the towing eye correctly in the foam block and correctly position the block in the arms of the jack, as shown in

Illustration 1, between the actuating thread and upper arms of the jack.

7. Ensure that the operating handle is folded into the position shown in Illustration 1.

8. Replace the jack assembly. Discard any retaining bolt that has a cone, pointing downwards, on its stem. Install and tighten the replacement

securing bolt (arrow, Illustration 1), so the washer locates against the bend in the jack operating handle.

9. Check that the wheel nut wrench is correctly stored as illustrated.

10. Reinstall the spare tire, washer, retaining nut and support pad.

11. If applicable, reinstall the foam surround followed by the cover.

12. Close the lid of the luggage compartment.
