Different variations of the GLS will be available throughout the world. They include the Mercedes-Benz GLS500 powered by a twin-turbocharged V8 outputting 449 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. In the United States, this model is badged the GLS550. Elsewhere in the range is the entry-level GLS450 complete with a 3.0-litre turbo V6 outputting 362 hp and 369 lb-ft, the same as other 鈥?50鈥?badged models in the Mercedes-AMG Sport line-up. Elsewhere is the 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLS350d 4MATIC with a V6 diesel and 255 hp and 455 lb-ft. Unsurprisingly, the range-topping Mercedes-AMG GLS63 will be available worldwide and thanks to the tweaked twin-turbo V8, now produces 577 hp rather than 550 hp. Mated to the V8 of the GLS63 is the company鈥檚 Speedshift 7G-Tronic transmission, albeit in a tweaked state of tune. Expect the new Discovery, like the recent crop of Land Rover vehicles, to be built extensively of aluminum and feature the latest engines and Jaguar Land Rover鈥檚 InControl Touch Pro infotainment system with a 10.2-inch touchscreen. Look For The next-generation Discovery to retain its off-road prowess, still perfect for rock crawling or camping in the wilderness. Sum Up: A long-awaited Discovery beckons. Minor: The 2017 Land Rover Discovery Sport can now be had with the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system with a 10.2-inch touchscreen. Optional safety features such as the Driver Condition Monitor, Intelligent Speed Limiter, and lane keeping assist are now available. A Dynamic Design pack is also new for 2017 and adds gloss-black 20-inch alloy wheels, contrast stitching on the gear shifter and seats, metal pedals, and special floormats. Cool Fact: A front-drive Discovery Sport is offered outside of North America as the base model. Sum Up: A more rugged alternative to the usual luxury crossover suspects. Minor: A new Range Rover SVAutobiography Dynamic model is available in its standard-wheelbase form with a sportier suspension tuning and a 550-hp version of the brand鈥檚 supercharged V-8 engine.
A 10.2-inch touchscreen is also a welcome addition, and the Range Rover now offers Advanced Tow Assist. Last year, the Range Rover gained an optional diesel six-cylinder engine. Best Buy: The diesel-powered Range Rover Td6 offers excellent range and top-notch capability on- and off-road. Sum Up: The go-anywhere SUV fit for royalty, especially in SVAutobiography guise. Major: The 2017 Land Rover Range Rover Evoque is now available as a four-seat convertible with a retractable soft top, and it features the same 240-hp, 2.0-liter, turbo I-4 as the rest of the Evoque lineup. Jaguar Land Rover鈥檚 updated InControl Touch interface has also been added. On HSE, HSE Dynamic, and Autobiography trims, the InControl Touch Pro system comes standard with a 10.2-inch touchscreen. Avoid: Packing too much for long road trips in the Evoque Convertible; there鈥檚 only 8.9 cubic feet of trunk space for your luggage. Sum Up: Sexy looks will cost you a pretty penny, especially when going topless. Unchanged: Last year, Land Rover added the 550-hp Range Rover Sport SVR, a high-performance variant that was tuned for maximum handling prowess without sacrificing off-road capability.
A torquey turbodiesel V-6 was also added for those wanting a fuel efficient and luxurious off-road-capable SUV. For 2017, its likely Jaguar Land Rover鈥檚 InControl Touch Pro9 with a 10.2-inch touchscreen could be added to the Range Rover Sport lineup. Driver鈥檚 Choice: The Range Rover Sport SVR can go from tearing up track to tackling trails with ease. Sum Up: Proof that SUVs are evolving into highly capable machines. Unchanged: Heated and ventilated seats become an option on base models, captain鈥檚 chairs are standard with the Luxury package and optional on the base GX, and Nightfall Mica is added as an exterior color. A Sport Design package, which includes some tweaks to the front/rear bumpers, a unique exhaust tip, Gray Metallic 18-inch wheels, a graphic on the taillights, and redesigned side mirror covers, is also new. Best Buy: If you want a luxurious three-row SUV but don鈥檛 need the cachet of the LX, the GX is almost half the price. Sum Up: Its body-on-frame design is old but undeniably capable.
