But What About The Rest Of The Ride?

But What About The Rest Of The Ride?

The 2019 Mercedes-Benz A220 is an entry-level four-door in Mercedes A-Series, which has only recently hit US shores. 50,000 car I tested was packed with performance extras and technology. Budget-minded buyers might look elsewhere, but the A220 is fun to drive, easy on gas, and a great introduction to the Mercedes way of life. Visit Business Insider's homepage for more stories. Mercedes-Benz has been selling cars in the US for decades, but until quite recently, Americans were denied the rinky-dink A-Class vehicles that Mercedes had delivered elsewhere on the globe. Fifteen years later, the A-Class has finally made it to the USA, for its fourth generation. I had never driven one before, so I was delighted to check out a 2019 A220 sedan with Mercedes 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. 10,000 cheaper than the lowest-grade C-Class. Bear in mind that you are getting a Merc that, unlike other sedans in the automaker's long history, is based on a front-wheel-drive architecture 鈥?the same idea behind Honda Civics and Toyota Corollas. I tried to avoid allowing my bias for rear-drive German luxury sedans to come into play with the A220. And when it was all a wrap after a week in the New York-New Jersey area, I was perfectly happy with the Benz's engineering. But what about the rest of the ride? Read on to see what I thought. Photos by Hollis Johnson. Why, whatever could that be lurking in the urban jungle? Well, it's no beast, but it is the 2019 Mercedes-Benz A220 4Matic sedan. The A220 is a subcompact four-door that now slots in below the C-Class. A-Class rides are Mercedes' new point-of-entry.

Another standard feature is the touchpad controller, which operates many vehicle functions. It stands out for its ability to recognize handwriting (you can draw letters and numbers on the pad with your finger), which can ease the pain of entering addresses into your GPS. The available COMAND infotainment system is something of a mess. The touchpad controller is located just in front of the center armrest, making it easy to inadvertently touch and change a setting. The COMAND interface also doesn't mesh well with the controller, so adjusting some functions requires several steps. Of the C-Class body styles, sedan models have the largest trunk: 12.6 cubic feet of space. Coupe models have 10.5 cubic feet of trunk space, and cabriolet models have just 8.8 cubic feet of space. The 2017 C-Class ranges from 15.4 feet to 15.6 feet long. Curb weight ranges from 3,417 pounds for a base C300 sedan up to 4,226 for the AMG C63 S cabriolet model.

The antitrust authorities have approved the entry of AKKA Technologies at the MBtech Group, an internationally leading engineering and consulting company based in Sindelfingen. As of today, AKKA Technologies holds a stake of 65 percent in the MBtech Group, which was previously a 100 percent Daimler subsidiary. Daimler and AKKA Technologies will now jointly develop MBtech. The entry of AKKA Technologies at the MBtech Group will create one of the biggest European engineering consultancies. AKKA Technologies is a listed company and is an engineering consultancy for the automotive, aeronautics, space, transport and energy sectors. In the area of aeronautics engineering, the company is already the market leader in Europe. In the future, that position will be held by AKKA Technologies and MBtech also in the automotive sector, where the Sindelfingen based company has its focus. Together with the new majority shareholder, MBtech will broaden its competence profile outside the automotive industry and will expand its international market position in the coming years. Daimler and AKKA Technologies intend to jointly develop the company and to strengthen its competitiveness on a sustained basis. This will protect jobs at MBtech while offering new opportunities for the workforce in an expanded international environment. The MBtech Group was established by Daimler AG in 1995. The company develops, integrates and tests automotive components, systems and modules, and employs 3,000 people at locations in Europe, North America and Asia. In the year 2011, it posted revenue of 375 million euros under currently applied accounting principals.
