The X6 first debuted back in 2008 and came with a love or hate design language which was a blend of a coupe and an SUV. The new X6 was leaked just prior to its global debut and now, the Bavarians have officially taken the covers off the third-generation X6. The SUV coupe treads the same path as its predecessors but features BMW's modern styling elements and the debatable large kidney grille. The new X6 will be available in four variants: xDrive30d, xDrive40i, M50d and M50i.

The top-spec M50i uses a 4.4-litre twin turbocharged V8 making 523PS and a solid 750Nm of torque. The diesel M50d gets an inline-six 3.0-litre twin turbocharged unit that makes 400PS and 760Nm of torque. Coming down the line, the xDrive30d uses a 3.0-litre inline-six twin turbocharged diesel producing 265PS and 620Nm of torque. The xDrive 40i, meanwhile uses a 3.0-litre inline six twin turbocharged petrol motor churning out 340PS and 450Nm of torque. All the engines come mated to the same 8-speed automatic transmission.

The 2020 X6 looks like a grown-up X4 with a sloping coupe-like roofline. It's not exempt from BMW's debatably large kidney grille. And in case you feel like the grille is not that much in-your-face, you can choose to add illumination to it too BMW Laserlight with adaptive LED headlights is also available as an option. The most striking design character of the X6 is its sculpted looks with the dynamic coupe-like roofline. The lower bumper features aggressive air dams and sharp design elements and coming to the rear, there is too much going on with the vertical bumper vents, fake exhaust tips, reflectors and lip spoiler. It comes with 19-inch light-alloy wheels as standard, while 20- to 22-inch units are available as an option. The BMW X6 M50i and BMW X6 M50d, on the other hand, will come with 21-inch light-alloy wheels.

The xDrive40i models will be available with an optional off-road package which includes two-axle air suspension, an electronically controlled M Sport rear differential, and four off-road driving modes - snow, sand, gravel, or rocks. The X6 gets a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen with various features like advanced gesture controls, Wi-Fi connectivity, wireless charging, and more. The whole interior layout is similar to the recently unveiled G05 X5.

Some standout features include the four-zone automatic climate control, thermoelectric cup holders, a panoramic glass roof, ambient air interior fragrancing package and a Bowers andamp; Wilkins Diamond+ 3D surround sound system. The new X6 also gets a host of safety and driver assistance features like blind-spot detection, forward collision warning, etc.

The third-generation X6's base sticker price starts at $64,300 in the US ( Rs 44 lakh, excluding tax) going all the way up to $85,650 for the M50 (approx. Rs 50 lakh). When launched, the X6 will rival theCoupe. Stay tuned to Zigwheels as we bring you more information on the latest offering from Bavaria.
