Audi’s new Volvo XC40 rival will break cover on July 25.
After recently unveiling the flagship Q8 SUV and the facelifted TT sports car, Audi’s product onslaught will continue this week with the reveal of the second-generation Q3. Underpinned by Volkswagen Group’s MQB architecture, the Q3 is being rebuilt from the ground up for the first time since the original launched in 2011. Audi was one of the first automakers to jump on the subcompact luxury crossover bandwagon, but seven years later the automaker is facing increasingly stiff competition from the likes of the Volvo XC40, Jaguar E-Pace, and BMW X1 in this competitive segment, so the updated Q3 is certainly arriving at the right time to take on its fresher rivals.
A teaser video confirms the 2019 Q3 will adopt Full-LED headlights inspired by Audi’s new design language seen on recent models. While it won’t be a drastic departure from the current model, it should look more modern, offering an attractive alternative to its larger siblings. Inside, expect the new Q3 to be more technically advanced than its predecessor and adopt Audi’s latest virtual cockpit display. In terms of powertrains, the current model’s 1.5-liter TSI and 2.0 TDI will most likely carry over in various guises.
In the US, the current model is only available with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine that produces 200 hp and 207 lb-ft of torque, so we expect this unit will carry over to the new model.
Performance-focused SQ3 and RSQ3 models will also join the line-up, with the latter rumored to pack 400 hp. The standard Q3 will break cover in just two days on July 25 before it goes on sale later this year, so watch this space. We’re just glad Audi hasn’t produced another cringe-worthy web series to promote it.
