Vehicles Affected: Approximately 50,000 model-year 2016-19 Acura ILX sedans
The Problem: An excessive amount of grease may have been applied during right driveshaft production, preventing the driveshaft from fully setting into the half shaft. If not fully set, the driveshaft can separate from the half shaft as the car moves, potentially causing a loss of power or allowing the vehicle to roll while in Park, if the parking brake is not activated, increasing the risk of a crash.
Acura said it has not received any reports of related crashes or injuries.
The Fix: Acura manufacturer Honda did not immediately announce a remedy.
What Owners Should Do: Acura will begin notifying owners in late July. Owners can call the automaker at 888-234-2138, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s vehicle-safety hotline at 888-327-4236 or visit its website to check their vehicle identification number and learn more.
