One of the jobs I've needed to do on my Porsche 911 was to investigate and repair the air conditioning that wasn't working. It's a common issue on the 996 model and generally due to the air conditioning condensers becoming corroded and damaged by road debris. On investigation that was indeed the case with my car with one condenser showing dark patches over half the surface indicating where the gas/oil mixture had leaked. I took the car to my local garage to get the air con checked, I assumed it was empty but wanted to be sure that I wouldn't release any gas by opening the system. As expected there was no gas in there so it was safe to get started. The first step is to remove the front bumper, a fairly easy job with the removal of various screws in different positions around the front area. Once the bumper is off the job is straightforward, remove the plastic air scoop housings in front of the radiators by undoing five Torx T25 screws and you now have access to the condenser and radiators. This needs to be done on each side - there are 2 condensers and radiators on the 996 and Boxster. REMEMBER - before you these steps ensure the system is degassed and has no pressure. When you have access to the condenser it's just a 6mm bolt that attaches the pipes to the condenser. Make sure that you support the pipes as you undo them to avoid damage. Once the pipes are removed it's a simple case of removing 2 more Torx T25 screws and the condenser comes off the car. Clean up the radiator of any debris and the new condenser can be fitted ensuring that you use new O rings for a good seal.

What better way to pay tribute to the Mercedes-Benz brand than to dedicate our first official blog post to the car that has set the industry standard for full-size luxury sedans: the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Since the turn of the century, the progressive engineering and ambition of Mercedes-Benz has launched its vehicles into our driveways, our minds, and the tip of our tongues as one of the most recognized luxury brands in the world. The first official S-Class ancestor was born in 1954: the type 220. The type 220 was the first Mercedes-Benz model with a six-cylinder engine and a unitized body design. With the official unveiling of the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class less than 30 days away (May 15th), many are anxiously anticipating the new features and body styling this luxury sedan classic has to offer. With the elimination of the Maybach, the S-Class is back on top as the premiere luxury model for Mercedes-Benz. As far as the exterior is concerned, modern touches have propelled the S-Class beyond the realm of superior design aesthetics. The rear of the vehicle pays homage to the Maybach with it's trunk-lid and adds a dash of CL/CLA flavor including LED accents in the taillights. Overall, the car is armed with stronger lines maintaining an airy and luxurious quality as if it could float above the asphalt. How about some spy photos? I feel when I think of the apocalypse. Until the unveiling, everyone.

2014 Mercedes-Benz S65 AMG spotted during photo shootSuper-luxurious convertibles make fantastic statements. They’re better than hardtop coupes, because they let everyone see you — you, who’s driving this phenomenally expensive, rolling, rumbling display of beautifully styled automotive hedonism. This is the 2017 Mercedes-Benz AMG S63 Cabriolet, and while it’s not the top-of-the-line four-seat convertible from Mercedes-Benz (there’s still the S65 above it and the Maybach S600 above that), it’s dang close to it. It has a monstrous twin-turbo V-8 engine, a sport-tuned air suspension, enormous wheels and a hand-crafted feel that make it truly special. But is it really necessary? 45,000 better than the already incredible S550 Cabrio? The transformation from big S-Class sedan to S-Class Coupe to S-Class Cabriolet doesn’t lose anything along the way in terms of style, presence or sheer visual impact. The S63 Cabrio looks and feels enormous; it’s a long, imposing design that somehow manages to be sleek and powerful. It’s somewhat akin to a killer whale — bulky but streamlined, able to move more quickly than expected. The S63 gets a slightly different lower bumper with wider air scoops, different wheels, an AMG-signature “A-wing” three-dimensional grille, more chrome all around, and a black air diffuser under the rear bumper.

There are also more AMG badges plastered to the car than is really necessary (all four exhaust tips?). Without them, though, the changes from the S550 are so subtle you might not recognize this as an AMG-specific model. The S63 Cabrio is one of those rare convertibles that looks good with the top up or down. The long Mercedes roof is quite high toward the rear, giving backseat occupants decent headroom but maintaining an elegant Mercedes profile. Top-down, the car looks fantastic with the top stored beneath a hard tonneau cover. The top can be raised or lowered at speeds up to 31 mph, and it takes less than 20 seconds to do so. You can also raise or lower the top using the key fob from outside the car. You might also have a problem noticing this is an AMG model when you’re behind the wheel and moving. The S63 AMG coupe comes with a twin-turbocharged, 5.5-liter V-8 making 577 horsepower and 664 pounds-feet of torque. It’s good for a zero-to-60-mph sprint of 3.9 seconds, Mercedes-Benz says, but the S550 and its twin-turbo, 4.7-liter V-8 can do it in 4.5 seconds.
