Engine Control - IDS Fails To Run DMTL Full Service Test

No: LTB00258

Issue: 1

Date: 02 FEB 2010

SECTION: 303

IDS Fails to Complete a DMTL 'Service Full Test'

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation:

While using the Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) to run the Diagnostic Monitoring Tank Leakage (DMTL) 'Service full test', it may be found that

the test only runs one time, leading to difficulty in diagnosis and repair of the vehicle. This may be caused by the base Engine Control Module

(ECM) software becoming stuck in a loop by not allowing the test to complete. If a second test is attempted, the ECM will deny access and the IDS

may report an on-screen error.

NOTE:

Using older IDS software will also not allow the test to complete; ECM software must be updated.

Action:

In the event of a concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to update the ECM software.

PARTS:

No parts necessary

TOOLS:

IDS with IDS-DVD/20_V6.02 or later and Calibration 25 or later Land Rover-Approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply

WARRANTY:

NOTE:

Repair procedures are under constant review, and therefore times are subject to change; those quoted here must be taken as guidance only.

Always refer to DDW to obtain the latest repair time.

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

UPDATE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE

CAUTION:

Ensure all ignition 'ON' / ignition 'OFF' requests are carried out; failure to perform these steps may cause damage to control modules in the

vehicle.

CAUTION:

A Land Rover-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during IDS diagnosis / module

programming.

1. Connect the Land Rover-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply to the vehicle battery.

NOTE:

IDS must be loaded with IDS-DVD/20_V6.02 or later and Calibration File 25 or later.

2. Connect the Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) to the vehicle and begin a new Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) session.

3. Follow the on-screen prompts, allowing SDD to read the VIN and identify the vehicle.

4. From the Session Type selection screen, choose 'Diagnosis'.

5. Select the Selected Symptoms tab, and then select both of the following:

^ Electrical > Instruments > Warning lamps > Engine malfunction lamp and

^ Electrical > Instruments > Warning lamps > Service interval indicator

6. Select 'Continue'.

7. Select the Recommendations tab.

8. From the Recommendations screen, select RUN to configure the Powertrain control module.

^ Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task.

9. Exit the current session.

10. Disconnect the IDS and the Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply from the vehicle.
