Chrysler Pacificas Recalled To Fix Loose Battery Connections

Chrysler is recalling about 208,000 model year 2017-2019 Pacifica minivans in the U.S. if they are equipped with engine stop/start systems.

The automaker says the Pacificas may lose their power steering or may stall due to loose battery ground connections.

About 198,700 of the minivans are recalled in the U.S., 8,300 are located in Canada and about 1,166 are recalled in Mexico.

Chrysler says there was a sealer applied when the wire harnesses were manufactured and the sealer can build up on the wire harness tabs. This may cause a loss of clamping power in the ground joints.

In January 2019, the automaker learned about 14 minivans with loose ground connections that could cause a sudden loss of power steering.

Although field reports, complaints and warranty claims have occurred, Chrysler says it is unaware of any crashes or injuries related to the loose connections.

The recalled minivans were built between October 11, 2016, and October 11, 2018.

The Chrysler Pacifica recall is expected to begin June 28, 2019. Dealers will inspect the battery ground surfaces, clean the contact surfaces and reassemble the ground connections.

Pacifica owners with questions should call 800-853-1403 and ask about recall number V53.
