Intermittent Engine MIL / DTC P003C / P003E Stored
AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation: On vehicles with the 5.0-liter naturally aspirated LR-V8 engine only, the engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) may illuminate
intermittently with Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P003C and/or P003E
stored in the Engine control module (ECM).
Cause: This may be caused by the oil restrictor sealing rings and u-groove being out of tolerance.
Action: In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to replace the oil restrictors.
PARTS:
LR011688.................Oil restrictor Qty: 2

TOOLS:
IDS with latest IDS-DVD and Calibration File; Land Rover-Approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply
Refer to Workshop Manual for any required special tools
WARRANTY:
NOTE:
Repair procedures are under constant review, and therefore times are subject to change; those quoted here must be taken as guidance only.
Always refer to DDW to obtain the latest repair time.
DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.
Normal Warranty policies and procedures apply
REPAIR PROCEDURE
CHECK FOR DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES
NOTE:
Before continuing, check for any previous repair history relating to fault codes P003C or P003E and ensure that there are no electrical issues
with the wiring and connectors between the Engine Control Module (ECM) and the Camshaft Profile Switching (CPS) solenoids (banks A
and B) and the supply voltage to both CPS solenoids.
NOTE:
If there are additional fault codes stored in the ECM other than POO3C or P003E, they should be diagnosed / rectified and all fault codes
cleared and the vehicle re-assessed to see if the codes return. If the P003C / P003E codes return without any additional codes stored in the
ECM, continue with the Repair Procedure. If the codes P003C / P003E and or additional codes appear in the ECM continue with diagnosis
using SDD and do not follow the Repair Procedure below.
CAUTION:
Ensure all ignition "ON" / ignition "OFF" requests are carried out; failure to perform these steps may cause damage to control modules in the
vehicle.
CAUTION:
A Land Rover-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during IDS diagnosis / module
programming.
1. Connect the Land Rover-approved Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply to the vehicle battery.
NOTE:
IDS must be loaded with IDS-DVD124_V6.O1 or later and Calibration File 59 or later.
2. Connect the IDS to the vehicle and begin a new Symptom Driven Diagnostics (SDD) session.
3. Follow the on-screen prompts, allowing SDD to read the VIN and identify the vehicle.
4. From the Session Type selection screen, choose Diagnosis~.
5. Select Complete vehicle - read all diagnostic trouble codes~.
^ If DTC POO3C or POO3E is stored in the ECM in addition to other related codes, carry out diagnosis of all codes using SDD as a separate
claim and then return the vehicle to the customer.
^ If DTC P003C or P003E is stored in the ECM without additional related codes, continue to INSTALL NEW OIL RESTRICTORS below.
^ If DTC P003C and P003E are both stored in the ECM without additional related codes, refer to Workshop Manual, section 303-00: Engine
System Diagnosis, and check for correct engine oil pressure, if necessary; to be carried out as a separate claim.
> Clear all DTCs.
> Start engine; let run for two minutes.
> Turn engine 'OFF'.
> Read all diagnostic trouble codes.
> If POO3C and / or P003E are stored in the ECM, continue to INSTALL NEW OIL RESTRICTORS below.
> If P003C and / or P003E are not stored in the ECM, return vehicle to the customer.
6. Exit the current session.

7. Disconnect the IDS and the Midtronics Vehicle Power Supply from the vehicle.
INSTALL NEW OIL RESTRICTORS
1. Refer to Workshop Manual section 303-01B and install a new oil restrictor in both A and B banks.
NOTE:
There are two types of timing chain fitted; identify the timing chain fitted to the vehicle.
[A] - INA chain; [B] - Tsubaki chain
2. For Warranty claim information only, identify the timing chain fitted.
