CONDITION SUMMARY:



Situation:



The power steering system may be noisy / heavy or exhibit an internal knocking noise from the center of the steering gear. This may be caused by



weld splatter contamination in the steering gear piston tube.



NOTE:



A clear sign that the filter is blocked is significant disturbance and/or air bubbles seen on the surface of the fluid in the power steering



reservoir. There is no need to change the power steering pump as the flushing procedure will clear any debris.



Action:



In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the appropriate Repair Procedure (A or B) outlined below.

REPAIR PROCEDURE 'A': VIN 8H000001 - AH150000



FLUSH THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM



NOTE:



After installing the new power steering system fluid reservoir, do not carry out the Power Steering System Bleeding procedure until after



replacing the steering gear.



1. Refer to Workshop Manual, section 211-00, Steering System - General Information, and flush the power steering system.

REPLACE THE STEERING GEAR



1. Refer to Workshop Manual, section 211-02, Power Steering, and replace the steering gear.



REPAIR PROCEDURE 'B': VIN AHI50001 - BH211570



FLUSH THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM



1. Refer to Workshop Manual, section 211-00, Steering System - General Information, and flush the power steering system.

2. Verify issue is resolved.



^ If issue is resolved, return vehicle to customer.



^ If issue is not resolved, go to step 3.



3. Refer to Workshop Manual, section 211-02, Power Steering Pressure Test, and perform a power steering pressure test to verify correct power



steering pump operation.



^ If issue is resolved, return vehicle to customer.



^ If issue is not resolved, perform Repair Procedure 'A'.
