VOLUNTARY SAFETY RECALL CAMPAIGN

2009 - 2010 ALTIMA AND MAXIMA FRONT STRUT MOUNTING INSULATOR

CAMPAIGN ID #: PC012

NHTSA #: 09V-358

APPLIED VEHICLES:

2009 - 2010 Maxima (A35)

INTRODUCTION

Some specific model year 2009 2010 Altima and Maxima vehicles may have been built with front strut mounting insulators that were not

manufactured to specification. The strut mounting insulators on these specific vehicles may crack. To remedy this potential condition Nissan is

conducting this voluntary safety recall campaign to replace the strut mounting insulators with new ones at no charge for parts or labor.

IDENTIFICATION NUMBER

Nissan has assigned identification number PC012 to this campaign. This number must appear on all communications and documentation of any

nature dealing with this campaign.

DEALER RESPONSIBILITY

It is the dealer's responsibility to check Service Comm for the campaign status on each vehicle falling within the range of this voluntary safety recall

which for any reason enters the service department. This includes vehicles purchased from private parties or presented by transient (tourist) owners

and vehicles in a dealer's inventory. Federal law requires that new vehicles in dealer inventory which are the subject of a safety recall must be

corrected prior to sale. Failure to do so can result in civil penalties by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. While federal law applies

only to new vehicles, Nissan strongly encourages dealers to correct any used vehicles in their inventory before they are retailed.

^ The new insulator has 2 white dots in the center (see Figure 8).

^ Make sure the insulator is positioned correctly, as shown in Figure 8.

15. Install the new center nut at the top of the strut.

^ Torque the nut to 73.2 N锟絤 (7.46 kg-m, 54 ft-lb).

16. Gradually release the spring compressor tension and remove the spring compressor.

^ Torque bolts to 139.6 N锟絤 (14.2 kg-m, 103 ft-lb).

21. Install the sway bar end link nut (see Figure 12).

^ Torque nut to 78.6 N锟絤 (8.0 kg-m, 58 ft-lb).

IMPORTANT:

Hold the link with a wrench on the opposite side to prevent damage to the end link joint.
