As of now, the only versions of the BMW X2 sold in America are the sDrive28i and xDrive28i, which are both powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbo producing 228 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. sDrive models have front-wheel-drive, and xDrive model have all-wheel-drive, but there is no option for additional power. We've heard rumors that a more powerful version of the X2 is on its way, and a recent spy video shows BMW testing two hotter versions of the SUV on the Nurburgring.
The video shows two test vehicles - one black, the other Galvanic Gold Metallic. Judging by the loud exhaust note, these are no ordinary X2 models. This hotter X2 will likely be called the xDriveM35i, and feature a tuned version of the B48 2.0-liter turbocharged engine.
This tuned four-cylinder is slated to produce around 300 hp, going out through an eight-speed automatic. We wouldn't be surprised if the X1 also received an M35i version, and it wouldn't shock us if a six-cylinder X2 M arrived latter on.
