Normal warranty policy and procedures apply.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
UPDATE HLDF SOFTWARE
1. If IDS *DVD 103 - Patch File 4* (or later) is being used, go to step 6.
NOTE: A software patch installation help file located on GTR provides instructions for the patch file installation process and could take up to
six minutes to download depending on connection speed. For information on how to confirm that the patch file has been correctly installed
onto IDS, refer to the applicable Patch Process Help File located in GTR.
Global Technical Reference (GTR) lookup sequence is as follows: GTR Home > NAS > Diagnostics/ LS - Range Rover Sport/2006 > Patch
Files > "Patch Process Help File - IDS" link
2. Logon to GTR from an internet connected PC and download the IDS Patch Process Help File as follows:
* Select 'Home' from the menu at the top of the main page.
* From the menus on the left of the page, select 'Diagnostics' as the 'Information Type' and select the relevant model and model year.
* From the 'All Information' results, select 'Patch Files'.
* Click the appropriate 'Patch Process Help File'.
NOTE: This could take up to twenty minutes to download depending on connection speed.
3. Using the help file as a guide, follow the instructions to download and save IDS *DVD 103 - Patch File 4* (or later).
4. Install the software patch file into IDS.
5. Verify that IDS successfully restarts.
CAUTION: A Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during diagnosis and module
configuration. The diagnostic lead must be correctly secured to prevent accidental disconnection during the software update.

6. Connect the Midtronics PSC-550 power supply to the vehicle battery.
7. Connect the diagnostic equipment to the vehicle and begin an IDS session.
8. Note the current software levels of the HLDF control module as follows:
Follow the prompts to read the vehicle configuration.
When prompted "Do you wish to read diagnostic trouble codes?", select "NO" and then press 'tick' to continue.
When the "Content Model" is displayed, select the 'Vehicle Configuration' tab.
Select 'Module Information'.
Select 'Network integrity test'
Scroll down to the FEM_SYSTEM_B module and note the vm_ecu_sw_pn software part number displayed on the screen.
NOTE: During module configuration, the on-screen software part number information that WDS/IDS will display can be checked against the
software part number noted in step 8 above. If the same software part number is displayed, the vehicle already has the desired software and the
software download procedure can be discontinued.
9. Configure the HLDF control module software as follows:
*Return to the 'Vehicle Configuration' tab and select 'Vehicle Configuration'.
Select 'Module Programming'.*
Select 'Configure Existing Modules'.
From the sub-menu, select 'Front Entertainment Control Module'.
Click the tick-box to continue and follow the on-screen instructions.
Note the on-screen software part number information that IDS will display.
* NOTE: Module programming error messages may appear during the tune download process. IDS may fail to complete the task and
display the generic error message: "application failed" and/or "software not available".
10. If the error message "application failed" or "software not available" appears, complete the following:
Complete the IDS debug monitor trace. (Refer to Trace Procedure attachment)
Send the completed monitor trace to the Land Rover Technical HelpLine and contact the HelpLine for assistance.
NOTE: In a small number of vehicles, the module programming error message(s) will have been caused by a known issue that
will require Land Rover Technical Helpline assistance. The completed IDS debug monitor Trace Procedure will allow the
Helpline to determine the root cause and provide the appropriate repair procedure to correctly resolve the concern.*
11. Compare the HLDF control module software part number displayed on IDS to the software part number noted in step 8 above.
12. If the same software part number is displayed, terminate the software download.
13. If a different software part number is displayed, complete the software download to update the software.
14. Exit the IDS session and disconnect the diagnostic equipment from the vehicle.
IDS Monitor Trace (Monitor2k2) Set-up & Use
Introduction:
The IDS Monitor Trace application is a powerful data collection tool that enables users to capture details of a failed IDS process. In many cases
collecting this data before contacting JLRNA for assistance with a problem vehicle or a possible IDS software error can help expedite a solution by
having this detailed info ready to send to JLRNA for review.
The monitor trace output file collects some of the following vehicle/environmental details along with actual IDS software debug info. (Content varies
from procedure to procedure.)
Vehicle battery (system) voltage.
Details of failed or successful communication between IDS and the vehicle.
Results of CCF evaluation and vehicle control module software selection procedures.
User inputs.

Control module status and VIN numbers.
Having an IDS monitor trace file ready when contacting JLRNA can reduce the time technicians must spend on the phone with helpline staff in
situations that are not easily resolved. In some cases the problem can only be resolved with the data available from an IDS monitor trace. This is
especially true if IDS reports errors during software download/reprogramming of a vehicle's control modules.
Bear in mind that when JLRNA must troubleshoot a failed IDS procedure, having this monitor information the only way to identify a root cause
effectively. This would be equivalent to how technicians use Diagnostic Trouble Codes to troubleshoot a "Check Engine Light" or other MIL.
When collecting a monitor trace, it's important to have the monitor application active during the procedure/failure you are attempting to collect data
for. It is also important to start the trace before starting the current session.
Here is an outline of how this should be done in the service bay.
IMPORTANT: Always have the Midtronics PSC-550 power supply connected to the vehicle battery when using IDS for diagnosis or vehicle
programming.
1. IDS reports a failure, or the technician gets unexpected results from an attempted procedure using IDS.
2. Exit the current diagnostic session, and return to the VIN entry screen.
3. Start the IDS Monitor Trace application. (See details that begin on the next page.)
4. Allow the Monitor to continue running as the new diagnostic session is started.
5. Enter the VIN and continue into the diagnostic session as normal. (Do not read DTC's unless this process is the one that you are trying to
collect a trace for.)
6. After IDS displays the Content Model, proceed directly to the procedure/task that originally failed, or caused the original concern.
7. Make another attempt to perform the procedure.
8. If the procedure was again unsuccessful, return to the IDS Monitor Trace application to save the trace results (details begin on next page)
before doing additional work with the monitor running.
9. If the procedure was now successful, the IDS Trace Monitor can be closed without saving the trace details.
10. Currently, the only way to transfer IDS Monitor Trace files to JLRNA is via E-mail, be prepared to forward this file when requested.
