AM/FM Reception Interference When Rear Window Heater is Switched On
If you receive customer reports in the above model vehicles of AM/FM or TV reception interference when the rear window heater is switched on,
this may be caused by one or more interruptions in the heat conductor in the rear window which may cause interference in the FM/AM bands. To
remedy, perform the following.
Note:
Use a battery trickle charger
At ambient temperature, the rear window heater needs to be turned on continuously for approx. 45 minutes at 13.8V. Since the heating period is
regulated depending on the outside temperature, it is necessary to switch off the rear window heater every 5 minutes manually and turn it back on
again immediately.
This procedure eliminates transition resistance at the contacts of the heated rear window. If interference is still present, detach the connecting lines of
the rear window heater from the rear window and connect them to a resistive load (50-60W light bulb = approx. 240 Ohms). If there is no longer any
radio interference present while the ohmic load is connected, the antenna in the rear window is malfunctioning and the rear window needs to be
replaced. Refer to EPCnet for applicable part number. Refer to WIS AF67.29-P-1130AG for further instructions.
