WARNING! Disconnecting the negative battery cable is not recommended due to otherwise extensive reprogramming requirements. WIRING
HARNESSES WILL BE ELECTRICALLY ACTIVE. IT IS THEREFORE NECESSARY TO EXERCISE EXTREME CAUTION WHILE
EXECUTING THESE INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS. FAILURE TO DO SO, COULD RESULT IN SEVERE PERSONAL INJURY OR
DEATH FROM ELECTRICAL SHOCK. The ignition and radio power must remain OFF until the final test is performed.
Application Specific D2B Notes:
^ CD changer, telephone, and voice recognition module fibers are installed at the factory. Telephone and voice recognition fibers run along the left
rear quarter panel and the CD fibers along the right rear quarter panel.
^ The vehicle is configured from the factory for the CD changer only.
^ Two sets of fiber cables run along the left quarter panel. One set is for the telephone only and the other for telephone and voice recognition.
While not in the factory configured ring, these optics are coupled together just forward of the battery on the right. Which set of optics to use, will
depend whether the telephone only or telephone with voice recognition will be installed.
^ All reconfiguration points are in the trunk in front of the battery and to the right of the fuse panel.

tray.
- Remove the Tele Aid button false floor by disconnecting the connector from the back of the button assembly.
- Using an awl, open the four (4) pre-molded cradle mounting holes (two are holes and two are located in the slots on the underside of the tray)
(Figure 8).
Note: Trim away any excess plastic ridges on the tray upper surface.
- Using a blunt object such as a ratchet handle, push out the knockout at the back of the false floor.
- Mount the cradle to the false floor using four (4) M4 x 8 screws.
Note: The cradle release buttons should face the front of the console along the Tele Aid buttons (Figure 9).
9. Mount the coil cord to the Tele Aid button side of the cradle by securing the strain relief closest to the main coil to the cradle with a # 8 x 1/2
Phillips sheet metal screw (Figure 9).
10. Route the coil cord through the hole in the back of the false floor and connect the Tele Aid button connector.
11. Reinstall the false floor assembly into the top console compartment and secure it with the four (4) previously removed screws.
2000 Mercedes Benz CLK 320 (208.365) V6-3.2L (112.940) Page 153

- Mount the CD changer to the bracket with four (4) M4 x 5 machine screws (Figure 18).
- Install the cover by engaging the plastic hinges over the flange on the top edge of the bracket and then rolling the hinges toward the back to
lock.
- Connect the 3-pole electrical and fiber optic connectors to the back of the CD changer.
- Lower the CD changer into the wheel well so that the pin on the bottom of the mounting bracket fits into the pre-punched opening on the side
member behind the battery (Figure 19).
10. Continue to position the CD changer so that the tabs on the mounting bracket align over the pre-punched mounting locations.
11. Secure the top mounts with the provided screws.
Version Coding and Diagnostic Testing
H. Version Coding and Diagnostic Testing
1. Connect StarDiagnosis (DAS) to the vehicle and perform the version coding outlined below:
^ Skip to step 3, if the telephone is NOT installed.
- Using path: Control units/Information and communication/ICM/Standard version coding/Optional equipment, set CTEL to Exists
- Using path: Control units/Information and communication/D2B/Control module adaptations/D2B Nominal configuration, set the D2B ring
configuration per the following table:
2000 Mercedes Benz CLK 320 (208.365) V6-3.2L (112.940) Page 157
4. Return to the D2B functions menu. Using path: Actual values/D2B Actual configuration, verify that the version coding input above (specified
value) matches the actual configuration performed during installation (actual values). If a difference exists, the ring has been improperly
configured and must be disassembled and properly reconfigured.
NOTICE! DO NOT alter the configuration in step H3 to match the vehicle configuration. Failure to have the configuration set as indicated in the
table will result in erroneous system operation and/or intermittent functioning of some or all components.
5. Check the DTC memory of all installed components and the head unit. Any present DTC(s) should be investigated and the source identified.
Once identified, the source of the DTC(s) should be corrected and the DTC memory cleared.
Note: Powering up the newly installed system prior to the above described version coding, will set D2B ring configuration errors. These errors may
be ignored during the initial DTC check. If after clearing the DTC(s), they return in the next step, a configuration error is present and must be
located and corrected.
6. Confirm that no new DTC(s) have been set in the D2B system group.
Final Assembly and Function Test
I. Final Assembly and Function Test
- Replace the trunk mat and removed panels.
- Program the telephone per S-S1-82.70/124, StarTAC Portable Telephone Programming.
- Verify proper CD changer, telephone, and Voice Activation System (as applicable to equipment installed) operation per the following
checklist:
CD Changer
^ Disk 1-6 load and unload properly
^ Magazine load and eject operate smoothly
^ CD sliding door opens/closes properly
^ Audio is clear and crisp
^ First and last track on selected CD can be accessed
Telephone
^ Handset dialing is functioning
^ Head unit dialing is functioning
^ Handset incoming/outgoing call audio is clear
^ Hands-free incoming/outgoing audio is clear
^ Automatic memory download is functioning (may be necessary to store a test number in the telephone handset for this feature to
operate). After automatic download, stored numbers should be available for dialing from the head unit.
^ Verify that the telephone mode is available in the ICM
^ Verify operation of the steering wheel controls
Voice Recognition
^ Verify that the VRM can be controlled by the PTT lever on the column
2000 Mercedes Benz CLK 320 (208.365) V6-3.2L (112.940) Page 158
