SITUATION

Certain Cooper vehicles produced within the listed dates may have an insufficient amount of transmission fluid. Operating the vehicle under these

circumstances could result in shifting problems and transmission noises.

To minimize customer's inconvenience caused by this Service Action, you may pick-up (and deliver after repair) the affected vehicle from customer's

home, or provide appropriate alternative transportation.

Customers will be impressed when you return their cars cleaned inside and out and with a full tank of gas. Reimbursement information for the

vehicle fueling and valet costs can be found in the Warranty portion of this bulletin.

AFFECTED VEHICLES

This Service Action involves R50 Cooper, R53 Cooper S, and R52 Cooper/Cooper S convertible vehicles which were produced from 7/26/ 2002-2006

through 8/25/ 2002-2006. In order to determine if a specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action, it will be necessary to utilize the "Service Menu" of

the DCS (Dealer Communication System). Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action.

The Chassis Number Ranges listed are only for informational purposes and are not to be considered as the only deciding factor.

[NEW]CORRECTION

Follow repair instruction RA 00 11 229, "Oil change in manual gearbox", to check the fluid level and top off, if necessary.

The fluid temperature is not critical and may be checked at any time. It is not necessary to allow drive train cool down before a level check. Please

note that the tightening torque for the filler plug is 43 +/- 4Nm.
