Now the entire C-Class lineup has been fully updated.
For the 2019 model year, Mercedes-Benz updated the C-Class with a number of changes. We tested the standard C-Class as well as the AMG-tuned C43, but now Mercedes has brought all of the 2019 improvements to the C63 AMG coupe, sedan, wagon, and cabriolet. The 2019 model is instantly distinguishable on the outside thanks to the addition of the Panamericana grille, which is found on a number of recent AMG products. Along with the new grille, the 2019 C63 has revised air intakes, new tailpipes, a new rear diffuser, and reworked taillights.
Interior Changes
The C63's interior now matches the rest of the 2019 C-Class lineup - with the addition of its own unique AMG touches. A 10.3-inch COMAND display screen comes standard, but a 12.3-inch fully digitized instrument cluster is optional. The cluster is controlled via touchpad controls on a redesigned steering wheel - we tested the same input in the 2018 S63 Cabriolet and found it to be very intuitive.
Another new addition to the steering wheel is the AMG Drive Unit, which has two integrated screens to show drive modes and other vehicle settings. There is also an optional AMG Track Pace package, which can show lap times and visualizations of real-life race tracks. The interior upgrades don't stop there, as the optional AMG Performance seats now feature heating and ventilation functions - this upgrade previously deleted the ventilation function.
Performance Upgrades
The C63's 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 carries over from 2018 with 469 horsepower and 479 lb-ft of torque in the base model and 503 hp and 516 lb-ft in the C63 S model. While power hasn't gone up, the number of gears has. The 4.0-liter V8 is now mated to a nine-speed automatic, which replaces the old seven-speed unit. This new transmission shifts faster than the old unit and features a fully manual mode that will not upshift at redline. We expect that this new transmission should help the C63 hit 60 mph quicker than the 2018 model.
Pricing and Availability
Mercedes hasn't announced when the 2019 C63 will be available, nor has it announced US pricing. We expect pricing to remain similar to the outgoing car, so expect a starting MSRP of around $66,000 for the C66 sedan and around $74,000 for the more powerful S model.
