SUBJECT
Interior Light not Working
MODEL
R50, R53 Cooper, Cooper S
SITUATION
The interior light, the footwell lights and the luggage-compartment light are not working or cannot be switched off.
CAUSE
The automatic interior lighting function is deactivated during series production for all versions of MINI.
PROCEDURE
The automatic interior lighting function can be activated and deactivated again by pressing and holding the interior light switch.
To toggle between these two states, the interior light switch must be pressed and held for:
-5 Seconds for vehicles up to August 2003
-8 Seconds for vehicles from September 2003
This functionality is also described in the Owner's Handbook (although the actual times are not specified).
