Remove/Install

DANGER:

- Risk of death. Death may result if vehicle slips or topples from the lifting platform.

- Align vehicle between the columns of the hydraulic hoist and position the four support plates below the hoist support points specified

by the vehicle manufacturer.

- Risk of injury, body parts may become jammed or crushed. Risk of injury, skin and eyes may be injured due to brake fluid spraying

out at high pressure when working on the SBC brake system - Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.

- Risk of poisoning from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury from brake fluid coming into contact with skin and eyes.

- Pour brake fluid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling

brake fluid.

Inspect

1 Check lining thickness of brake pads and condition of brake disks 2 If necessary, clean the perforation of brake disks

NOTE: Use a drift or dia 4.3 mm drill bit for cleaning.

3    Deactivate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.

CAUTION: See notes on repairs to brake system

4    Release parking brake

- Only if removing brake disks (61) on the rear axle.

5    Raise vehicle with lifting platform so that the wheels clear the ground 6    Remove brake caliper

CAUTION:

- Do not disconnect brake hose.

- Do not stretch brake hose, hang up brake caliper using a hook.

NOTE:

- Installation: Install new retaining bolts for fixed caliper or floating caliper.

7    Unscrew locking bolt (63) and remove brake disk (61)

CAUTION: If the parking brake drums are run in turn back parking brake adjuster. Otherwise the parking brake shoes will be damaged, refer to, adjusting parking brake

NOTE: Installation: Always replace brake disks (61) in pairs. Lightly grease seat of brake disk (61) with MB long-term grease. Replace locking bolt (63).

Inspect

8 Check lining thickness and condition of parking brake shoes

- After removing the rear axle brake disks (61), if necessary, install new parking brake shoes.

9    Install in the reverse order

Inspect

10 Check version of pedal assembly

- Only if removing brake disks (61) on the rear axle.

11    Adjusting parking brake

- Only if removing brake disks (61) on the rear axle.

12    Activate SBC brake system using STAR DIAGNOSIS.

13    Use STAR DIAGNOSIS to move brake pads toward brake disks

14    Inspect fluid level in expansion reservoir, adjust to correct level if necessary.
