A Lamborghini used to have three driving modes to chose from. Strada, for the street; Sport, for when you want to have fun on the street; and Corsa for track driving. The new Lamborghini Aventador S adds another mode: Ego. Yes, it's really called that. It's an almost hilariously appropriate mode for a Lamborghini, the sort of car that caters to those who crave attention. In reality, Ego mode just means you can individually set the transmission, steering and suspension behavior to suit your individual tastes. Maybe you want a softer ride but tighter steering. Aside from that, the new Aventador S is much more than just another way to get people to look at you with that special Lamborghini-inspired mixture of envy and disdain. 420,000, has a number of improvements over the "regular," Lamborghini Aventador that it's replacing. Four-wheel-steering allows the car to feel smaller and even more agile. When driving slowly, as the front wheels turn toward one side, the back wheels will turn slightly toward the other, creating a teeny tiny turning circle.





At higher speeds, the front and back wheels will turn together for silky smooth lane changes. There is also an improved, variable four-wheel-drive system. It allows more power to go to the back wheels in the sport and track modes than in the normal street-driving mode. That lets a skilled driver deliberately slide the back end of the car around. It also gives the driver a better feel for the road, and what the car is doing on it, through the steering wheel. Another big improvement is to the transmission. It's still the single-clutch automatic transmission, as before. Mechanically, it works very much like a manual transmission except that it can shift gears on its own. Engineers have made some changes to the transmission's mechanical bits as well as to the software programming that runs it. The transmission had been a deal-killer issue for me in the old version. It worked great when you wanted to drive like you'd sworn not be taken alive.





When driven in a more sane fashion, it heaved and bucked with slow and awkwardly timed gearshifts. The retuned version in the Aventador retains the Lamborghini's aggressive character. In Strada, or street, mode getting going requires a forceful stab at the gas pedal which, after a pause, elicits a lurch forward. From then on, it's fairly smooth going. Even so, on public roads, I never kept this car in Strada mode for long. Sport mode uses more gas, but it's where this car feels most natural. And where its V12 engine sounds the best, belting out great, ripping internal combustion arias. With a zero-to-60 acceleration under three seconds, it is of course blisteringly quick and it feels nice going through a curve, too. It's still a beast but it now has a tamer side. It's a careful balancing act. Lamborghini, part of the Volkswagen Group (VLKPF), is working to make the brand somewhat more accessible with its upcoming Urus crossover SUV.

The verdict: The 2016 Porsche Macan S SUV is the apple that doesn鈥檛 fall far from the tree in Porsche鈥檚 repertoire, delivering a high-performance driving experience in an unlikely shape. Versus the competition: You can spend similar money on larger SUVs, but they can鈥檛 rival the 2016 Porsche Macan鈥檚 combination of athletic twin-turbo driving experience and luxuriously appointed interior. Porsche has been more than just a 鈥渃ar鈥?maker for years, since the introduction of its wildly popular Cayenne midsize SUV. The Macan鈥檚 sport-tuned suspension is never uncomfortable like the rough-riding BMW, though I wouldn鈥檛 call the Macan 鈥渃omfortable鈥? our test car had standard coil springs and fixed-firmness shock absorbers. But a slightly busy ride at highway speeds is a completely fair tradeoff for how well the Macan handles, and a little body motion in aggressive cornering doesn鈥檛 take away too much from its dynamic personality. Adaptive shock absorbers with coil springs and an air suspension are options if you want to improve ride/handling characteristics.

Circuit/System Description



The camshaft position actuator system enables the Engine Control Module (ECM) to change the timing of the camshafts while the engine is



operating. The Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve signal from the ECM is pulse width modulated (PWM). The ECM controls the



Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve duty cycle by controlling the amount of solenoid valve ON time. The Camshaft Position Actuator



Solenoid Valve controls the advance or the retard of each camshaft. The Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve controls the oil flow that



applies the pressure to advance or retard the camshafts.



Ignition voltage is supplied directly to the Camshaft Position Actuator Solenoid Valve. The ECM controls the solenoid valve by grounding the

His nemesis and former boss, Thomas Edison, was the iconic American inventor of the light bulb, the phonograph and the moving picture. Amongst science nerds, few debates get more heated than the ones that compare Nikola Tesla and Thomas Edison. So, who was the better inventor? Circuit/System Verification



1. Ensure the transmission fluid temperature is between 50-80掳C (122-176掳F).



2. Operate the vehicle in 2nd gear long enough to ensure at least a 3掳C (5掳F) rise in transmission fluid temperature, then operate the vehicle in



Park for 5 s.



3. Observe the scan tool Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Valve 1 Current parameter, the reading should be between 0.1-1.1 A.



Circuit/System Testing



Command the Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Valve 1 with a scan tool. The value should change from 0.0-1.0 A.



If the value does not change, turn ignition OFF, remove the K71 Transmission Control Module. Connect a test lamp between the low reference



circuit terminal 10 X2 at the K71 Transmission Control Module and the voltage supply component circuit terminal 11 X2 at the K71 Transmission



Control Module. Command the Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Valve 1 with a scan tool. The test lamp has to illuminate brighter with increasing



current.



If the test lamp always illuminate or always does not illuminate, replace the K71 Transmission Control Module.



Component Testing



Static Test



1. Ignition OFF, remove the K71 Transmission Control Module.



2. Test for 5-5.6 ohm at 20掳C (68掳F) between the low reference circuit terminal 10 X2 and the voltage supply circuit terminal 11 X2.

Solenoid Valve 1.



3. Test for infinite resistance between each terminal and the low reference circuit terminal 10 X2 and also to the voltage supply circuit terminal

New Mazda 3 2019 Review




Mazda revels in doing things a bit differently. By shying away from downsized petrol engines, for example, it sets itself apart from the plethora of mainstream brands. This is the all-new Mazda 3. It鈥檚 always been a stylish choice, but the fresh car stands out with sharp lights, neat lines and crisp detailing. When it goes on sale in the spring, it鈥檒l come as a five-door hatch or saloon, and with manual or automatic gearboxes and front or all-wheel drive. The engine line-up will comprise a 1.8-litre diesel, and a choice of 2.0-litre petrols in SkyActiv-G or SkyActiv-X guises. The latter will deliver around 180bhp, and brings unique Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) - a clever innovation that promises diesel levels of torque, economy and emissions from a petrol engine. We鈥檒l need to wait to sample that, though, because our early drive was restricted to the standard 鈥楪鈥?2.0-litre petrol engine, linked to a six-speed manual transmission.





And drive is exactly what Mazda鈥檚 engineers want you to do, bucking the zeitgeist and focusing on handling rather than nannying driver aids and convenience features. To appeal to keener drivers, Mazda has undertaken exhaustive research into human movement, looking particularly at seating position and the connection the driver has with the car. The result is a superb driving environment. The cabin鈥檚 ergonomics are spot on, matched with improved material quality and a smart design. All controls are simple to operate. Mazda has removed the touchscreen capability from its central display, offering all operations within a BMW-style rotary dial with supplementary buttons. It鈥檚 easy to use, and allows Mazda to position the screen higher on the dash, thus enabling the driver to see it without having to take their eyes too far from the road. If there鈥檚 a complaint inside, it鈥檚 over-the-shoulder visibility. The thick C-pillars cause that, although the wide, frameless rear-view mirror and big hatch window do offer a better view directly out the back.





The boot is smaller than the outgoing model鈥檚 at 295 litres, too, which places it some way short of segment stalwarts such as the Volkswagen Golf (380 litres) and the Vauxhall Astra (370 litres). Rear seat space is acceptable rather than hugely accommodating, which might be an issue if you regularly carry passengers. Riding on an all-new SkyActiv structure, the car has benefited from a lot of attention on suppressing noise. Refinement has improved dramatically as a result, with the lack of road and wind noise bringing premium levels of refinement. The outgoing 3 was always an enjoyable car to drive, and the new version builds on that. The rear suspension might be less sophisticated, but you鈥檇 do well to notice it on the road. Body control is well judged, the Mazda 3 riding with composure. That鈥檚 been achieved with real connection, too - the steering offers decent feel and weight, delivering accuracy and response. It all feels very polished, in fact. If there鈥檚 a but, it鈥檚 the 118bhp 2.0-litre SkyActiv-G engine. Largely carried over from the current 3, it lacks the sort of low-rev torque many of its turbo rivals can deliver, so it needs to be worked hard. We reckon the car will be better served with the newer and more efficient SkyActiv-X unit, which we鈥檒l try next month.

The Macan鈥檚 bold styling takes a number of cues from the second-generation Cayenne, including a rather bluff front end that varies in look depending on engine. Predictably, the interior has an upmarket feel. The look again draws heavily on the Cayenne, but subtle changes help set the Macan apart, including a multi-function steering wheel similar to the 918 Spyder鈥檚. The rest is familiar, with a three-dial binnacle, touchscreen multimedia system and a high-set middle console housing a sea of switches. It looks cluttered, but the ergonomics are excellent. As for the standard equipment, the Turbo is available in two forms - standard and with Porsche鈥檚 Performance Package. The Macan Turbo rides on 19in alloy wheels, an aggressively-styled bodykit, adaptive bi-xenon headlights, electrically adjustable front sports seats, Alcantara roof lining, and a Bose sound system as standard.





The Performance Package adds not only more power to the Turbo, but also the optional Sports Chrono pack, which includes launch control and more extreme driving modes, adaptive dampers and a 15mm lower ride height. The Macan Turbo line-up consists of a twin-turbocharged 3.6-litre petrol engine that is described as being all new, although a naturally aspirated version of the same unit has appeared in the last-gen Panamera. While the Performance Package and the limited edition Exclusive Performance Edition helps the Turbo鈥檚 engine punch out 434bhp and an additional 37lb ft of peak twist. The Macan Turbo is pleasingly smooth, with an engine that pulls well from the front, is potent through the mid-range and accepting of high gears at low speeds. There鈥檚 some low-end lag, but the V6 is terrifically energetic on boost. With a short-stroke design, the engine also revs with great conviction for a forced-induction unit, rushing up to 6700rpm without feeling remotely breathless before hitting the limiter. It is just a pity that the new V6 sounds so characterless no matter which driving mode - Standard, Sport or Sport Plus - is chosen. There is an entertaining burble to the exhaust, but it is more often than not drowned out by excessive induction blare. You wouldn鈥檛 call it bland, but the noise is rather insipid. The engine impresses, but it鈥檚 the standard seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox that really shows its class. It is fast, smooth and intuitive and has the ability to perfectly match revs on downshifts. The four-wheel drive system directs torque to the rear wheels and, when the conditions call for it, to the fronts, giving the Macan a distinctly rear-drive bias.

New Project Dark Knight And Venture D110s




East Coast Defender has made a name for itself by taking Land Rover Defenders and endowing them more power and classier interiors. The Florida-based company has returned with two new Defender D110s that utilize the same underpinnings, but couldn鈥檛 be more different. The two new SUVs include Project Venture, which joins the company under its Heritage Collection, and Project Dark Knight that鈥檚 classified as parts of East Coast Defender鈥檚 Custom Collection. We鈥檒l start with the latter of the two offerings. Project Dark Knight isn鈥檛 a machine to appease Batman fans. Instead, the name aptly describes the paint scheme the SUV is wearing. The custom Defender is finished in black eggshell, but also has Wolfrace Vermont polished 20-inch wheels, an external roll cage, LED spotlights, and a winch on the outside. Besides the shiny wheels, the SUV looks like a low-profile off-roader. Things are a little different on the inside, though.





The SUV features seating for six passengers thanks to gorgeous brown seats. There鈥檚 an elegant pattern on the seats that really makes the vehicle look upscale. The cabin looks fantastic, but the Momo Gotham steering wheel and center console look out of place. Still, it definitely looks comfortable. Under the hood, Project Dark Knight features a General Motors LC9 5.3-liter V8 engine that generates 320 horsepower. The engine is paired to a six-speed automatic gearbox. The Defender D110 that鈥檚 known as Project Venture is a little different. It looks larger than Project Dark Knight and more willing to get dirty. The SUV features a traditional exterior paint scheme, Keswick Green, and has a few extra components to make it more useful when the road gets tough. There鈥檚 an exterior roll cage with a roof rack, a rear ladder, black powder coated side steps, and, of course, a winch. If you thought a 5.3-liter V8 was impressive, Project Venture is powered by a 430-hp 6.2-liter V8 that鈥檚 matched to a six-speed automatic transmission. Once again, East Coast Defender has redone the interior, but it doesn鈥檛 look as opulent as the one in Project Dark Knight. Gray leather seats with green accents help add some color to the cabin, while a Momo Jet steering wheel, wireless charging, and a Sony infotainment system help usher it into modern times. We鈥檇 love to have both of these custom Defenders in our garage, but they鈥檙e probably way out of our budgets. You know it鈥檚 a bad sign when a company doesn鈥檛 announce pricing for a vehicle. Still, if you have the funds and are in need of a machine that has luxury and unbeatable off-roading capability, Project Venture and Dark Knight are both excellent choices.





The 2015 Mazda Mazda3 3s Grand Touring, which comes in hatchback and sedan editions, sits at the apex of the Japanese compact car's trim pyramid. A 2.5-liter, four-cylinder engine is standard with the Mazda3 3s Grand Touring, and it provides 184 horsepower and 185 lb-ft of torque along with the choice between either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy for the frugal Mazda shows as 28-mpg city and 39-mpg highway. Refreshed for the current model year, the 2015 Ford Focus Titanium combines many of Ford's different options packages for the compact sedan and hatchback. You can also order the Titanium Technology package, which includes extra safety gear, as well as the option of a sunroof, a navigation system, and even an automatic parking feature. The Focus Titanium's engine is the same 2.0-liter, four-cylinder mill found with the base model, which means 160 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque, and buyers can choose between either a five-speed manual or a six-speed dual-clutch automated manual gearbox. Fuel economy for the Titanium is listed at 27-mpg city and 37-mpg highway. The 2015 Acura ILX is a compact economy car with definite luxury leanings, which means that even entry-level editions are quite well-equipped. The 2.4 Premium Package includes a 201 horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that is also good for 170 lb-ft of torque. Unusual in its class, this top-shelf Acura is only offered with a six-speed manual transmission, and fuel efficiency checks in at 22-mpg around town and 31-mpg during highway cruising.

Circuit Description



The engine control module (ECM) controls the air/fuel metering system in order to provide the best possible combination of driveability, fuel



economy, and emission control. Fuel delivery is controlled differently during Open and Closed Loop. During Open Loop, the ECM determines fuel



delivery based on sensor signals without heated oxygen sensor (HO2S) input. During Closed Loop, the HO2S inputs are added and used by the



ECM to calculate short and long term fuel delivery adjustments. If the HO2S indicate a lean condition, fuel trim values will be above 0 %. If the



HO2S indicate a rich condition, fuel trim values will be below 0 %. Short term fuel trim values change rapidly in response to the HO2S signals.



Long term fuel trim makes coarse adjustments in order to maintain an air/fuel ratio of 14.7:1.

Hyundai Group brands Hyundai, Kia and Genesis are set to benefit from a new electric car platform, similar to the Volkswagen Group鈥檚 MEB technology, while more radical designs for the brands鈥?dedicated EVs are promised, too. 鈥淎 new platform dedicated to electric vehicles is about two years away,鈥?a company insider revealed to Auto Express.
