Circuit/System Description



The transmission control module (TCM) temperature sensor is located inside of the control solenoid valve assembly, which has no serviceable



components. The TCM temperature sensor provides the temperature of the TCM. This temperature reading is used in various shifting and



diagnostic routines in the TCM software. This fault is handled inside the TCM and no external circuits are involved.

First Drive: 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer

Well, Dad is spinning in his grave again. The man loved only one car in his life — his beloved 1931 DeSoto roadster that he drove as a teenager — but he had enormous respect for the Jeep brand (generally) and the Wagoneer (specifically). He owned at least four during the 1960s and ’70s, not to mention the two-door Cherokee (SJ) that occupied my parents’ driveway during the early ’80s. I got my driver’s licence behind the wheel of the 1966 model, which was his favourite.
And while he would have been tickled pink to learn Jeep has resurrected the nameplate after a 30-year absence, he’d be beyond horrified at the price of the all-singing, all-dancing 2022 Grand Cherokee Series III parked in my drive — an uncharted-territory-for-a-Jeep $127,675.
Yes, the original Wagoneer was certainly a better riding, better equipped 4×4 than most of the day’s competition. But to Dad it was a family vehicle, a taller-riding station wagon with the additional benefit of four-wheel drive, which made it ideal for our cold Canadian winters.
Here’s the thing. When the original Wagoneer was retired back in 1991, it cost as much as a Cadillac. Back then, German automakers were still building cars, not SUVs. Neither the Lincoln Navigator nor Cadillac Escalade had made it to the drawing boards and Lexus was a new nameplate from Toyota struggling for recognition.
Clearly the full-size luxury sport-ute segment is far different these days. The competition is much stronger and far more established — in addition to the Escalade and Navigator, think Range Rover, Mercedes GLS, BMW X7, Lexus LX and others. Jeep is going to have to work hard to reconnect with upscale customers.
Still, it’s not as if Jeep is blowing smoke up its own, er, exhaust pipe. First off, the brand — now part of the Stellantis empire — is also introducing the more affordable Wagoneer ($59,995 to start), which has the GMC Yukon, Ford Expedition, et al, in its sights. Secondly, the Grand Wagoneer is offered in three increasingly opulent trim levels, designated Series I ($100,995), II ($106,995) and III ($120,995), plus a special all-black Obsidian cosmetic package ($113,995) based off the Series II.
The Grand Wagoneer rides on the Ram 1500 pickup’s body-on-frame architecture. Its exterior design is formal, rectilinear, and tastefully blinged out, with elements from the old Wagoneer such as the flat roof line and the trapezoidal wheel arches.
Peering inside, the seven-seat (eight-seat optional) Series III tester is not shy with the materials chosen throughout the cabin. Handcrafted Satin American Walnut wood in abundance. “Grand Wagoneer” inlaid in metal on the passenger side of the instrument panel. Shift knob, door speaker and vent surroundings in aluminum. Bezels in chrome. Nappa leather-trimmed seats for the Series I, softer Palermo leather-trimmed seats with quilting for the Series II and III, along with leather-wrapped instrument panel, console and door panels with accent stitching. The Grand Wagoneer might not reach the Bentley Bentayga’s hedonistic level of luxury, but it’s in the same ballpark.
As for accoutrement, the list is impressively long, starting with the 24-way power front seats, including memory settings and massage, power lumbar support, four-way powered headrests and passenger memory. Plus first- and second-row heated/ventilated seats, heated steering wheel, memory steering column and adjustable pedals. Then there’s the four-zone HVAC system, the 10.25-inch articulating front comfort display and a 10.25-inch fixed rear comfort screen. For the audiophiles, the Series III comes with a McIntosh MX1375 Reference Entertainment system, complete with 23 tuned speakers, 24-channel 1,375-watt amplifier and dedicated amp channels to drive active speakers. The Righteous Brothers belting out Unchained Melody sent shivers up my wife’s spine.
The front-seat passenger is not neglected either, thanks to their own 10.25-inch touchscreen. Four major functions — Co-Pilot (navigation, device management), entertainment (via HDMI or rear-seat entertainment control) and Fire TV for Auto, plus the ability to view the exterior vehicle cameras — keep boredom at bay.
This is just a glimpse of the features throughout the Grand Wagoneer; the bigger question is how this posh rig drives. And the answer is, it drives BIG. The sheer size and mass of the Grand is overwhelming at first. Dimensionally, the SUV is 5.45 metres in length and 2.1 metres wide. That’s a Sasquatch-sized footprint. It isn’t as solid as the rock of Gibraltar, it is the rock of Gibraltar, the Series III weighing in at 2,912 kilograms. (For those who better understand the Imperial system, that’s 6,420 pounds.)
I never thought a 6.4-litre V8 engine, especially one putting out 471 horsepower and 455 pound-feet of torque, could be described as merely “adequate,” but it’s the word that comes to mind in coping with the Grand Wagoneer’s tonnage. The SUV prefers a more relaxed pace, although, when called upon with a heavy application of throttle, such as merging onto a highway, the eight-speed transmission will kick down and the V8 will respond to the need. That said, some of the upshifts under hard acceleration were clunky in nature.
As should be expected, fuel economy is not the Jeep’s forte. NRCan rates the Grand Wagoneer at 18.6 L/100 km in the city, 12.8 on the highway. In a run to and back from Niagara’s wine district, mostly highway with some back roads thrown in, I averaged 14.4 L/100 for the near 400-km trip. And premium octane is recommended when filling up. (Stellantis announced in July that it has plans to electrify every single model of the 14 brands under its purview, including Jeep.)
The Jeep’s ride is exemplary thanks to the Quadra-Lift’s four-corner air springs. More than 90 mm of lift span through five height settings ensure the Grand Wagoneer will tackle tarmac or trail with equal aplomb, leaving passengers unruffled regardless of road conditions. For those of shorter height, fear not; in Park mode the Jeep lowers 40 mm for easier entry and exit. The Series III also comes with retractable power running boards.
Speaking of passengers, the Grand Wagoneer offers what Jeep says is best-in-class overall passenger volume (5,074 litres) and the most cargo volume behind the third row (775 litres). As someone who is 6-foot-1 and leggy, I can absolutely attest to the lavish headroom and legroom in the first and second rows. Peeking back into the third row, it looked reasonably roomy as well. Getting to that third row is courtesy of the second-row-seat’s power release Tip ’n’ Slide function.
While it’s reasonable to question the timing and need of such an “extroverted” vehicle, Mike Szymkiewicz, head of product planning, notes that the combined large and premium large SUV segments grew 65 per cent in Canada between 2015 and 2019, and accounts for about 13,000 very profitable sales annually.
More anecdotally, the appearance of the Grand Cherokee at a Niagara winery generated surprising interest. One guy in a Porsche Cayenne, rolled down his window, commented very favourably on the Jeep’s looks and asked if it was available. Several others walked around it, pointing out certain details among themselves.
At the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer’s launch several months ago, Christian Meunier, Jeep Brand CEO at Stellantis, described the Wagoneer customer as “[living] life to the fullest and [enjoying] every little bit of it. When you lead such a full life you choose a vehicle with personality. That’s what Wagoneer is for.”
Like it or loathe it, there are no half measures to the Grand Wagoneer. After a three- decade absence, Jeep is again stepping up to the plate and is swinging for the fences.

conditions. The control module illuminates the MIL when the following conditions occur:



* The engine load is within 20 percent of the previous test that failed.



* The engine speed is within 375 RPM of the previous test that failed.



* The engine coolant temperature is in the same range of the previous test that failed.



Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC - Type A or Type B



* The control module turns OFF the MIL after 4 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail.



* A current DTC, Last Test Failed, clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.



* A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other emission related diagnostic.



* Clear the MIL and the DTC with a scan tool.



Non-Emissions Related DTCs



Action Taken When the DTC Sets - Type C



* The control module stores the DTC information into memory when the diagnostic runs and fails.



* The MIL will not illuminate.



* The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The control module stores this information in the Failure



Records.



* The driver information center, if equipped, may display a message.



Conditions for Clearing the DTC - Type C



* A current DTC Last Test Failed clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.



* A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other non-emission related diagnostic.

We’re Driving The 2021 Chevy Tahoe Z71 – What Do You Want To Know?

Over the next few days, GM Authority will be behind the wheel of a 2021 Chevy Tahoe Z71. The Tahoe is Chevrolet’s second largest model after the 2021 Chevy Suburban, which is essentially the same vehicle except that it is 15 inches longer. Both were completely overhauled (re-engineered and redesigned) for the 2021 model year, representing the first model year of their fifth (Tahoe) and 12th (Suburban) generations.
Both the 2021 Tahoe and 2021 Suburban are built on the GM T1 platform at the GM Arlington plant in Arlington, Texas. The same applies to the 2021 GMC Yukon and 2021 Cadillac Escalade, both of which are also in their first model year.
Z71 is the most off-road-oriented trim level in the Chevy Tahoe range, and as such it offers less choice than any of the others. For starters, only one engine is offered – the 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine from the EcoTec3 family, which produces 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque; the 3.0L I-6 LM2 turbo-diesel Duramax engine or the 6.2L V8 L87 are not available. The Tahoe Z71 is also unique in the line-up in that it is available only with four-wheel-drive, a two-speed transfer case and Hill Descent Control.
For the same reason, the Tahoe Z71 has a different look than versions in other trim levels. The front fascia is unique, which not only makes the vehicle look more rugged but also provides a higher approach angle for more effective off-roading. Also standard are 20-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, a front skid plate and red tow hooks. Black and chrome exterior accents do not affect the vehicle’s ability, but they help to distinguish it visually from non-Z71 models.
Our Tahoe Z71 is fitted with two optional packages. The more expensive of these is the Z71 Off-Road Package, which is priced at $5,735 and consists of the following features:

The vehicle also comes with second-row bucket seats with power release ($370) and a floor console with a power sliding center ($350). All of the option raise the vehicle’s price from the base MSRP of $60,495 (including $1,295 destination freight charge) to $69,400. A $500 discount is then applied as part of the Z71 package content discount, bringing the cost to $68,940.

Nissan launches of Note Aura NISMO in Japan; e-POWER electrified powertrain

Nissan launched the Note Aura NISMO, sales of which are scheduled to start in Japan this autumn. The all-new Note Aura NISMO comes exclusively with Nissan’s e-POWER electrified powertrain (earlier post), a key part of the company’s electrification strategy under the Nissan NEXT global business transformation plan.
e-POWER borrows from the EV technology perfected in the Nissan LEAF, adding a gasoline engine to charge the high-output battery when necessary. This eliminates the need for an external charger, while offering the same high output as an EV. e-POWER uses a smaller battery than the LEAF, but delivers the same driving experience as a full EV.
"NISMO, a short form of ""Nissan Motorsports,"" is the performance brand for Nissan."
 With “swift electrified city racer” as its Formula-E-inspired design concept, the Note Aura NISMO is based on the Note Aura while incorporating the NISMO spirit and ethos.  
Utilizing aerodynamic technologies refined through motor racing, the Note Aura NISMO features optimized aerodynamic downforce, offering stability at high speeds. Quick and smooth handling, as well as high steering stability, are also offered by the specialized suspension and optimized body rigidity distribution.
In addition, the Note Aura NISMO makes maximum use of the second-generation e-POWER system to offer agile response and increased acceleration.
 Three drive mode settings are available for the Note Aura NISMO. The NISMO drive mode offers a more powerful response and increased acceleration. The Normal Mode and the Eco Mode have also been specially tuned for NISMO, providing more comfortable driving.

Circuit/System Description



The shift control solenoid (SLB1) is installed on the front valve body. The solenoid linearly controls hydraulic pressure in response to signals



output from the transmission control module TCM. Through this, the SLB1 controls operating hydraulic pressure to the brake for smooth shifting.



According to each shift control solenoid assembly, the transmission shifts from 1st gear into 6th gear and vice versa. As a fail-safe function, if any



shift control solenoid assembly abnormality occurs, the TCM will disable the current to the solenoids.

Like most of you, I saw the big Toyota social media 2022 Tundra reveal last week. Let me just say – I could not be any more excited.
This next-gen Tundra is bold, tough and rugged. Looks incredible. Now, some of us may need a little time to get used to the gigantic, prominent front grille. I already have and I think this look is very cool. People will get used to it.
Also, I cannot wait to see what interior surprises Toyota has in store for Toyota Tundra fans. Oh, and we may want to know more about performance specifications.
You know – horsepower, torque, mpg, tow capacity. Plus what multimedia capabilities will be offered.
Yes, this is all very exciting that 2022 Toyota Tundra is on the way. So now that we are ready to get a new Tundra, when can we order one?
2022 Tundra Release Date

Many people are so interested in the next-gen Toyota Tundra, they are already making plans to get one. Take a look at a few questions I received this past week.

2022 Toyota Tundra Order Time
This is a Tundra topic that gets a little tricky. For several reasons.
First, we do not know particulars yet, including configurations, colors and pricing. If 2022 Toyota Tundra hits dealerships around December time, for example, people could probably officially begin placing deposits with actual specs around October-November time frame.
CRAZY TIMES: Vehicle shortage making things tough for Toyota Tacoma buyers
However, many dealerships will allow Tundra fans to place a deposit for a generic “2022 Tundra TRD Pro in black, white or red.” This way, they secure their place in line ahead of everyone else. The drawback here is buyers will not know exact pricing yet. Maybe only a ballpark. Buyers will also not know at this time what option packages and upgrades will be available on the new full-size truck giant.

 The final part of the moving equation here is the vehicle shortage due to COVID and computer chip shortages across the entire industry.
Plenty of dealerships currently have a backlog, a logjam if you will, of 2021 Toyota Tundra orders from anxious customers. Several of these orders will not be able to be filled as a 2021 Tundra, but rather may carry over into 2022 Tundra orders. Time could potentially run out on 2021 models.
If these people waiting for a 2021 truck now become first in line for 2022 Tundra orders, this may push back new 2022 Tundra orders as they flow in.
We just do not know what type of Tundra volume will come in during the initial end-of-year wave due to this current shortage.
So many questions. Not enough answers.

Circuit/System Testing



1. Perform the Line Pressure Check (See: Transmission and Drivetrain/Automatic Transmission/Transaxle/Testing and Inspection/Component



Tests and General Diagnostics/6T70/6T75 - Automatic Transmission/Line Pressure Check). Verify the transmission line pressures are within



the range specified in the Line PC Solenoid Valve Pressure table. Refer to Solenoid Valve Pressure (See: Specifications/Mechanical



Specifications/Automatic Transmission/Transaxle/System Specifications/6T70/6T75 - Automatic Transmission/Solenoid Valve Pressure).

2. Ignition OFF, remove the control solenoid valve assembly. Refer to Control Solenoid Valve and Transmission Control Module Assembly



Replacement (See: Powertrain Management/Transmission Control Systems/Actuators and Solenoids - Transmission and



Drivetrain/Actuators and Solenoids - A/T/Shift Solenoid/Service and Repair).



3. Perform the Control Solenoid Valve and Transmission Control Module Assembly Solenoid Performance Test (See: Transmission and



Drivetrain/Automatic Transmission/Transaxle/Testing and Inspection/Component Tests and General Diagnostics/6T70/6T75 - Automatic



Transmission/Control Solenoid Valve and Transmission Control Module Assembly Solenoid Performance Test). Test all solenoids on the



control solenoid valve assembly. A pressure change should occur for each solenoid valve.



瀚慖f the control solenoid valve assembly does not pass the performance test, replace the control solenoid valve assembly.



4. Listed in the table below are conditions for each component that could set DTC P0756. Carefully inspect each component for that condition.



Repair or replace as necessary.
